Oh, sweet, sweet summertime is finally amongst us. While most like a chill, laid back summer I enjoy a time full of wild explorations and new adventures. What better way to fulfill my traveler's instinct than by exploring the beautiful city of Madison, Wisconsin. From early Saturday mornings at the Dane County Farmer's Market to drinking a pitcher of Wisconsin's finest at the Terrace, this city is full of surprises around every corner. If this is your first summer in Madison (as it is mine) or just looking to spice up your old routine, read my Mad City Summer Bucket list as it will be your roadmap this summer in the beautiful city of Madison. So get out your pen and paper and start writing, it's going to be a wild summer.


1. Bon fire at Picnic Point

Picnic Point is one of Madison's natural areas. Its a mile-long peninsula along Lake Mendota's south shore. Each year thousands of Madisonians visit Picnic Point by running, biking, or even walking there! It features several campfire pits that anyone can enjoy for free! This summer take a moment to get out of the city and head to this beautiful area for a s'more!


2. Bike or run around Lake Monona

In need of some exercise? Join the hundreds of fellow bikers and runners along the Lake Monona Shoreline!



3. Movie at Sundance Cinema

Featured at the Hilldale Mall, Sundance offers some flare to your movie experience. This Cinema offers food and beverage options like pizza and beer (of course we are in Wisco) which you can enjoy during the movie!

P.S: Instead of previews, head over to the Rooftop Bar & Bistro before your movie!


4. Concert in the Square

Every Wednesday at 7 P.M. come and spend a fun summer night with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra!


5. Visit the Terrace, especially after dark

During the day grab a chair and soak up the sun on the Memorial Union Terrace. However, when the sun goes down the Terrace features an excellent lineup of music and movies. Get ready to jam to some great bands and watch some classics!


6. Go sailing

Hoofer Sailing Club offers a summer membership for students, faculty, staff of UW-Madison, and Wisconsin Union members. Here you can take free sailing lessons and become certified where then you can take boats out on gorgeous Lake Mendota!


7. Head down to the Farmer's Market

The Dane County Farmer’s Market is the largest producer-only farmer’s market in the U.S.! That said, this is a definite must this summer; plus who doesn't love fresh flowers, vegetables, and of course cheese curds!


8. Lounge and sunbath at Bascom Hill

Grab a blanket, a book, and some friends to catch some sunshine on the green grass of Bascom Hill.


9. Dine on a rooftop

Placed on top of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, enjoy a terrific view of State Street and the Capital Building at Fresco Rooftop Restaurant and Lounge.


10. Enjoy Madison's Eats Food Tour

Enjoy a tasty adventure through some of Madison’s most unique and diverse foodie neighborhoods with Madison Eats Food Tours. Who knows what you'll find!


11. Hike the Ice Age National Scenic Trail

Strap on some comfy shoes and hike through the historical trails at Ice Age National Scenic Trail.


12. See a play at the Overture Center of the Arts

Enjoy a refreshing musical performance at Overture Center for the Arts!


13. Visit the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

Wander through art exhibits at Madison Museum of Contemporary Art!


14. Rock out to live music at the Majestic Theater

Want to hear live music? Head over to the Majestic Theatre and see who's playing!



15. Rent a tandem kayak at Wingra Boats

Wingra Boats' offers boat and kayaks rentals in hopes to connect people to nature through outdoor recreation!


16. Chill at the docks of Goodspeed Pier

Grab a drink and head over to the pier to enjoy a cool place to hang and also a beautiful view of Lake Mendota!


17. Smell the beautiful flowers at Olbrich Botanical Gardens

Beautiful flowers, amazing landscapes and hundreds butterflies! It's a perfect place for the nature lover!



18. Celebrate a birthday at the Nitty Gritty

Did I mention free drinks on your birthday? Head on over to the Nitty Gritty for great food and delicious drinks!

19. Shop on State Street

Check out all the shops and restaurants located on State Street. From Urban Outfitters to thrift shops, State Street has something for everyone to enjoy.


20. Get a lick of Ice cream at Babcock Hall Dairy

Wisconsin fresh ice cream. Dare I say more?
