Grindin' For Our Grades

After all, we are in college to earn a diploma.

Grindin' For Our Grades

Studying is something we have to do if we want achieve our goals and get that diploma. Yes, C’s do get degrees, but we should all strive to do better than that.

Testtakingtips.com suggests finding “a comfortable and quiet place to study with good lighting and little distractions (try avoiding your own bed; it is very tempting to just lie down and take a nap).” I’ve also learned in the past that studying in my room doesn’t get me very far without me finding something better to do; I’ll even start cleaning. Now the big question is, where is a good place to study?

1. The Library

Of course this is number one. Mitchell Memorial Library has six floors full of computers and books to help you study. If sitting on a computer or at a desk isn’t your thing, the library also has couches. The library is also equipped with a coffee shop, Einstein Bros Bagels, which is really good if you’ve never been! The library is the perfect place for anyone to find their perfect study corner.

2. 929 Coffee Bar

Located in downtown Starkville, this coffee shop has an amazingly cool vibe that turns out to be a perfect study area. The booths in the quiet, cool basement are perfect for working on group projects or spreading all of your books across. On a day that just so happens not to be scalding or freezing, the outside tables are a perfect way to study, sip coffee and enjoy the breeze. Bonus: You can get a fresh brewed cup of your favorite coffee by just walking a few steps over to the bar and it even comes in a "real" coffee cup if you're dining in. Double bonus: The blueberry bars are delicious!

3. StrangeBrew Coffee House.

This coffee shop has oversized chairs and sofas located in its upstairs loft that are perfect to curl up in to study and sip coffee. It is even conveniently located right off-campus on Highway 12 next to McDonalds. (It's the place with the sign that always has the quirky sayings.) Bonus: Just like at 929, you can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee just by walking over to the counter instead of having to make your own. Double Bonus: If you're not a big coffee drinker but are in need of some caffeine, the frozen dirty hot chocolate is on point! It has some espresso in it, but it's not overwhelming thanks to the hot chocolate.

4. The Colvard Student Union

Located conveniently in the heart of campus, this is a great place to study due to it's location. It's easy to cram for a test between classes in because it is probably next door to many of your classes. Even though the first floor probably isn't ideal for studying unless you are in Starbucks, the second floor has several couches and plenty of floor space to sit down and open up a book. Bonus: Chick-fil-A, Panda Express and Starbucks are all located on the first floor! Need I say more?

5. Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge

Simply known as just the Refuge, this is the perfect place to go if you like peace, quiet and nature, as long as you won’t need wifi. Also, you’ll need to take everything with you that you might need; with the Refuge being about 25 minutes off campus, you wont be able to run back to get anything you forgot. Bonus: Take your eno and relax a little while studying.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
