This is a list of teams from all sports – hockey to football – that defied odds and pulled out a 'W' in the end. The year 2016 seemed to be the year of comebacks in the sports industry and 2017 brought one of the most exciting and shocking Super Bowl games in NFL history.

13. Clinton Lumberkings
The Clinton Lumberkings, a minor league baseball team, over came a 16 run deficit against the Burlington Bees in May of 2014. The game is, to date, one of the all time highs for the Lumberkings with a 16 run comeback to a score of 17-1 – 20 runs and 22 hits. Joe DeCarlo and Burt Reynolds were the two players who brought it home for the team and made the difference between a tie game and a win.
12. Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers hold a spot as one of the greatest comebacks in NBA history. They defeated the New York Knicks in game one of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals with 18.7 seconds remaining in the game. Player number 31, Reggie Miller, scored eight points in nine seconds and earned himself a spot in the Hall of Fame on September 7, 2011.
11. Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts overcame a 21-point deficit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003. The Colts were down in the fourth quarter 28-7 and managed to prevail with less than four minutes remaining. Peyton Manning threw a total of 176 yards to Marvin Harrison, who had 11 catches in the game. The duo ultimately lead the team to victory.
10. Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers overcame a three point deficit over the Boston Bruins in round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2010. They are the third team in NHL history to overcome a three game deficit. Simon Gagne, who had recently recovered from a broken bone in his foot lead the team to a 4-3 victory in over time.
9. Cleveland Indians
On August 5, 2001, the Cleveland Indians made history by beating the Seattle Mariners; they overcame a 12 point deficit, an unheard feat at the time. It is regarded as one of the greatest moments in baseball history.
8. Duke Blue Devils
The Duke Blue Devil's comeback against the Maryland Terrapins has earned the name the "Miracle Minute." In the 2001 Final Four, the Blue Devils trailed the Terrapins by 22 points for the first half of the game. Shane Battier and Jay Williams were the key players of the game, with Williams alone scoring 25 points.
7. Michigan State Spartans Football
The game of Michigan State versus Northwestern in 2006, is regarded as the biggest comeback in NCAA Division 1-A history. With only 10 minutes left to play, the Michigan State Spartans football team was down 35 points, with a score of 38-3. With three minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the tied game, Travis Key intercepted the ball from the Northwestern Wildcats. Michigan State's Swenson hit a 28 yard field goal to give them the lead of 40-38, which was ultimately the final score.
6. Buffalo Bills
The AFC Wild Card game of 1993 between the Buffalo Bills and the Houston Oilers maintains the title of biggest sports comeback of the NFL as of February 2017; the game has also been deemed simply, "The Comeback" by football fans. The Bills overcame a 32 point deficit to defeat the Oilers in overtime with a score of 41-38. The win was especially shocking and exciting considering it was their backup quarterback Frank Reich who ultimately lead the team to victory.
5. Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox broke their infamous curse in the 2004 ALCS game against their long time rival, the New York Yankees. The Red Sox became the first team in baseball history to come back from a 0-3 deficit and win a seven game series. A home run by David Ortiz in Game Four gave the Red Sox the win in extra innings; Ortiz also won Game Five for the team. The final game, Game Seven, was a clean sweep of the Yankees by the Red Sox – thanks to key players Derek Lowe, Johnny Damon and David Ortiz (who was later named the Most Valuable Player of the series).
4. Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks beat the Green Bay Packers in the 2015 NFC Championship game and earned themselves a spot in the Super Bowl for the second consecutive time. With only four minutes left in the game, the Seahawks trailed the Packers 19-7. Marshawn Lynch ran in a 24 yard touchdown for the Seahawks and Russel Wilson successfully passed to Luke Wilson for a two point conversion, giving them a 22-19 lead with less than a minute of playing time left. A Packers successful field goal sent the game into overtime, where the Seahawks ultimately clenched victory with a game winning 35-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse.
3. Liverpool
Liverpool of England defeated AC Milan of Italy in the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final game, regardless of a three point deficit at halftime. Ironically, AC Milan were dubbed the favorites and likely victors of the game. Liverpool came back in the second half with three goals in six minutes – scored by Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso. This game is regarded as one of the best of the UEFA Champions League tournaments and earned the name, the "Miracle of Istanbul."
2. Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are the first NBA team to overcome a 3-1 game deficit and win the championship. It was also the first major sports championship any Cleveland sports team has won since 1964. The Cavaliers went up against the Golden State Warriors, notoriously known for their key player, Stephen Curry. LeBron James of the Cavaliers showed up ready to play and ended up having one of his best games at one of the most important ones he's had yet – with 27 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. The game was tied at 89 to almost the final minute. Kyrie Irving scored the game winning three point shot.
1. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots came back from a 25 point deficit in only 114 seconds, giving them the title of Super Bowl LI Champions against the Atlanta Falcons. It's the first game in Super Bowl history to go into over time and New England's fifth NFL Championship. Patriots quarterback, Tom Brady, set a new NFL record for quarterbacks with four MVP awards and five Super Bowl rings. The Falcons played strong and steady and maintained a 25 point lead with a score of 28-3 into the third quarter of the game. The game winning play was a one yard touch down run by James White.
