8 Spoken Word Poems That You  Need To Hear

The best thing about spoken word poetry is that it gives the audience someone that says "hey, sometimes I feel strange and terrible things, just like you."

This is a comprehensive list of my favorite spoken word poems for when I need something to relate to, or something to make me sad, or something to remind me that it is good in the world.

And now--in no particular order--the spoken word poems that take my heart out of my body, throw it on the ground and stomp on it in the best way possible.

Andrea Gibson--Living Proof

"Pacing in the mind mangle of being someone on my way to die, asking someone else not to."

Blythe Baird--The Kindest Thing She Almost Did

"She tells me, 'I don't know how to love anyone with my whole being.' And all at once I feel so stupid, and so small as I tell her 'Well, I don't know how to not.'"

 Neil Hilborn--You Can't Be Depressed

"The question isn't 'why are you sad?' or even 'how can I help?' The question is 'Do you need a blanket?', 'Can I get you some ginger ale?', 'What's your therapist's number?', 'What kind of sandwich?', 'Where does it hurt?', 'What does the darkness want?', 'Where is it quiet and how do we get there?', 'How can I help?'"

Old Gray--Like Blood From A Stone

"...and the smoke tendrils once midnight black and swirling above your head break away, leaving nothing in your view but the sky. And it is so perfect. And it is so clear."

 Rudy Francisco--Love Poem Medley

"And I swear I'm not usually a love poet, but if I was to wake up tomorrow morning and decide that I was going to write about love, my first poem--it would be about you."

Rachel Wiley--The Fat Joke

"'World, it hurts to exist like this!'

'So stop existing like that.'"

Doc Luben--14 Lines From Love Letters or Suicide Notes

"Seven. I've just been too afraid for too long."

 Good--BLUE DUDE

"There's music, and nights out with friends, and that tingly feeling you get when your crush says your name."

Find excitement in your life and start exploring wherever you are right here, right now.

mu bucket list

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2023, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

Great Value Colleges

If you go to or went to Kent State, then more than likely you have done or will do some of these things.

1. You’ve slipped and fallen on the ice at least once.

The winters at Kent are brutal, and while the heated sidewalks and some great snow boots are always a help, there’s no chance you won’t bust it on the ice at least once in your four plus years at school.

Christmas is literally so close. We can almost taste it. But there is just one thing standing between you and the big day: FINALS. It's not the studying, lack of sleep, last minute cram sessions or crappy food intake that is the worst... but the fact that you cannot focus because, well, CHRISTMAS. How do professors expect you to focus when Christmas is soooo soon. For all my fellow Christmas lovers out there, I feel your pain.
