"Saturday Night Live," SNL, premiered in 1975 on NBC as NBC’S Saturday Night. It's 41 seasons strong and has made some of the best comedians in history. Some of which include: Seth Meyers, Jimmy Fallon, David Spade, Chris Rock, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Adam Sandler, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey and Eddie Murphy. With over 800 episodes and countless sketches, here are my top 11 favorites.
1. Star Wars: Undercover Boss Starkiller Base
This could easily be my favorite SNL sketch of all time. Adam Driver’s commitment to his character and the work of Bobby Moynihan, Taran Killam and Leslie Jones made this skit.
2. Close Encounter
Who doesn’t love Ryan Gosling? This sketch stars Gosling, Cecily Strong and Kate McKinnon. McKinnon’s detailed description of her “close encounter” was so funny, it broke both Gosling's and Strong’s characters.
3. Target Lady
I could not choose just one Target Lady sketch. Kristen Wiig’s character has earned a special place in my heart as my favorite SNL character.
4. More Cowbell
“I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell." This fan favorite stars Christopher Walken, Jimmy Fallon, Chris Parnell, Chris Kattan, Horatio Sanz and Will Ferrell.
5. Naked and Afraid
Leslie Jones is a new addition to the SNL cast, and, after watching this, it is safe to say she is now one of my favorites.
6. Hillary Clinton Election Video
Kate McKinnon’s impression of Hillary Clinton has been popular the past two seasons. The over-the-top portrayal of this 2016 Presidential Candidate is one of America’s favorites.
7. Anything relating to Stefon
Stefon Meyers, played by Bill Hader, is the New York Correspondent for the Weekend Update. His love affair with Seth Meyers and unusual club recommendations has landed him a spot in my favorites.
8. Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are both hysterical comedians alone, but together they are the perfect storm. Their Palin and Clinton impressions during the 2008 Presidential Election could be their best work together.
9. Wayne's World
“Wayne’s World! Wayne’s World! Party time! Excellent!” Wayne’s World appeared on SNL 21 times, the last time being the 40th Anniversary Special. This SNL original landed itself a movie in 1992 and a sequel the following year.
10. Motivational Speaker
Chris Farley was one of SNL’s key players throughout the '90s. His character, Matt Foley, could quite possibly be his most memorable.
11. The Maharelle Sisters
The Maharelle Sisters made countless appearances on SNL. Dooneese Maharelle’s comedic timing never failed to make a hilarious sketch.
Although these are my personal favorites, there are hundreds of other skits that were close contenders. Tune into NBC every Saturday at 11:30 p.m to see new sketches featuring celebrity guests.
