I love Netflix, I'll admit it. But there are times when it has absolutely nothing to offer. Here's a list of winners on HBO you should be watching instead of spending hours browsing or re-watching The Office for the hundredth time.
1. Girls
What I loved most about this show was how consistently honest and relatable it was throughout the 6 seasons. Evidently, this is Lena Dunham's brainchild and, even if you don't love her idea of feminism, give this series a chance. As a bonus, this is one of those few shows that accurately portrays New York life and, more importantly, how tricky it gets after college!
2. Divorce
I will admit that I stumbled upon this show only because of Sarah Jessica Parker. However, it has so much more to offer! Thomas Haden Church, for instance, is admittedly the hottest dad on television right now. I mean, who doesn't dig that moustache? Overall, this show is a rollercoaster ride that you will not want to get off.
3. The Night Of
If you're looking for something heavier, more intense then this is it! Watching this show was an experience I haven't gotten over months after. But in reality, it gives a very REAL portrayal of America's justice system. Also, it makes you think about the consequences of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
4. Sex and the City
Anyone who hasn't seen the entirety of Sex and the City needs to change that immediately. Although I have grown to hate some aspects of this show over time, it is still a classic.
5. True Detective
Y'all, I could talk about Matthew McConaughey for hours, but True Detective is more than just a Matthew McConaughey delight. The tight script and brilliant performances make it a must-watch crime thriller. However, keep in mind that the topic is dark and some scenes get quite graphic.
PS - I would STRONGLY advise you to avoid Season 2.
6. Curb Your Enthusiasm
I turn to this show every time I need a break from The Office. In a more perfect world, Michael Scott and Larry David would be best friends but, in the meantime, give Curb Your Enthusiasm a shot for some light comedy.
7. Westworld
Creepy, oh so very creepy. I wish I could explain the premise of this show without ruining the whole experience for you. It has a sci-fi/thriller/crime kinda vibe going for it. Definitely worthwhile if you consider yourself a Spielberg fan. Once again, quite gory... but when has that ever stopped us?
8. Entourage
I was, myself, a little late to this fan club, but who doesn't love a good old Hollywood drama? While I don't find it as addictive as some other shows listed here, it is definitely worth one watch. On an unrelated note, it has 8 seasons so it will keep you busy for days.
9. Big Little Lies
So under-appreciated! I stumbled upon this show when it was just released and was immediately addicted. Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, AND Reese Witherspoon play the lead characters who are 3 unsatisfied suburban moms. This drama-thriller series will keep you gripped until the very end, leaving you begging for more!
10. Game Of Thrones
Predictable, you say? Believe me when I say that I still run into people who haven't watched all of Game Of Thrones. Who are you, people? What are your reasons? Lock yourself up in a room and return to society after watching ALL of the 7 seasons.
PS - You have until the end of the year before Season 8 premieres.
