As we face some of the most triumphant political challenges our country has faced...without further ado, here are some of my favorite political songs of all time.
1. Green Day - American Idiot.
Released during the 2004 election cycle, this song showed quite a bit of discontent among what the state of the media was then. Too overly preachy, religiously run.
2. Credence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
This song had anti-establishment ties with two Army Reserves men, John Fogerty and Doug Clifford wrote about the rich men making war and poor men fighting in these wars.
3. John Lennon - Imagine
The famous Beatles singer belted out this famous melody in 1970ās. At the end of the Vietnam war, this soft song was to send a message where the lack of things such as religion and political beliefs, the world would be a better place.
4. Keane - Is It Any Wonder?
Released in 2005, this song still rings true today. The song says something about the feelings of being powerless and totally misrepresented. We see this with āThe Silent Majorityā today.
5. Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five - The Message
This 1980ās song represented anxieties and plights experienced by inner city citizens in contemporary urban life.
6. John Mayer - Waiting On The World To Change
This song represents what most of the anti-Trump people feel today. As we are waiting on Robert Mueller to hurry with his investigation, it seems like the government is taking more control as we are waiting for the change in government.
7. Sum 41 - Weāre All To Blame
This song dealt with politics in its making in 2004. It is representative of who and what was to blame for the state of the U.S. at the time. We willingly voted for Bush, and by extension, the Iraq War. We were blissful and blind to the war and what we were being sold at the time.
8. N.W.A. - F*** Tha Police
This 1988 song dropped four years before the Rodney King riots. The theme was āpolice brutality,ā and drew ire of the FBI and police during a show at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit where threats of arrest were made by police if that particular song was played.
9. Billy Joel - We Didnāt Start the Fire
This song had a catchy tune for all events through 9/11. Anti-Flag - Any song from āFor Blood and Empire.ā The band shows many songs of anti-corporatocracy in itās āFor Blood and Empireā album.
10. Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.
Released in the Reagan era, this song shows how the America they know treats the working men and women of this nation: poorly.
