Here's my list for the top must-see places in the Bay Area.
1. San Francisco
This is clearly the obvious choice for most tourists, but still worth the trip. There are several places to explore and visit, that have to be seen in person. Some favorites include Ghirardelli Square, Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, a Giants baseball game, or Alcatraz island. All of these places are unforgettable and are definitely worth the visit. Not to mention, if you visit when it's not particularly windy or foggy, the experience can be about ten times more enjoyable.
2. Monterey
Another beautiful place right by the ocean in Monterey Bay. It is most famous for the huge aquarium that lays at the cities center. The high cliffs and rough waves make a very beachy area, in which you can practically taste the saltwater, everywhere you walk. If you do make it to the aquarium, the otters are a must see. Not only are they adorable, but they never get old, I could just watch them swim around forever in their little tank. The jellyfish are also fairly popular, along with the schools of fish that swim together. However, no doubt do the otters steal the show.
3. Napa
Napa or known more commonly as wine country is a gorgeous area that is only about an hour away from San Francisco. The place is flooded with vineyards and amazing food, at some of the top restaurants in the world. A key attraction of this relaxing getaway is the hot air balloons. Although you have to get up a little early, it's worth it to see all of Napa from so high.
4. Carmel
Talk about a beach town. Carmel is an amazing cute beachy place that is filled with bed and breakfasts and little cottages lining the beaches. If you want to spend some time in a quiet escape, with some close friends, Carmel is the place for you. As well as swimming, there are great hikes and bike riding available as well. The main downtown of Carmel is a stretch of tiny local shops with unique charm, including a famous candy store that everyone seems to rave about.
