Best Places To Study For Finals At UGA

Finals suck. But studying for them doesn't have to.

Best Places To Study For Finals At UGA

It's no secret that The University of Georgia is one of the best schools in the entire world. Plenty of people will agree with me that there's nothing like a Saturday in Athens during football season, and that nothing really compares to the pride and joy of a Bulldog spirit. However, just like all colleges, final exams are inevitable. But there are plenty of unique places at UGA to fit anybody's studying habits, which is just another reason why (I said) it's great to be a Georgia Bulldog. Here are some study spots worth a cramming at:

UGA's Main Library

Of course, any campus's library is the go-to place for studying. Not a shocker that it made this list at all. But UGA's library has seven floors (plus a basement) of A1 study space. My personal favorite is the fourth floor study lounge. There are plenty of enticing new additions, such as oversized bean bag chairs for quality naps, rolling chairs for easy access to friends across the room, and chalkboard and whiteboard walls for those pesky math equations that just don't fit on a single sheet of paper.

Two Story Coffeehouse

Any college student will tell you, coffee and cramming go together hand in hand. What better place to get the best of both worlds than at Two Story? Located right in the heart of Five Points (the intersection of Milledge and Lumpkin), this trendy coffee shop will get you through finals. And true to its name, there are two stories. Grab a cup o' joe on the first floor, and then head upstairs for undisturbed seating.

State Botanical Garden of Georgia

If you're looking for a change of scenery, look no further. UGA's very own Botanical Gardens can help you get some fresh air and brush up on that reading you regret ignoring at the beginning of the semester. Both parking and admission are free, so it won't break the bank, but you'll still get that serenity you need to cram as many vocab words into your head.

Downstairs of Snelling Dining Commons

One thing that I need when I'm studying is sleep. The perfect place to take a little nap in between studying power hours is downstairs in Snelling Dining Commons. This little nook hosts some of the comfiest couches on campus, and it's pretty well known to students in need of a cat nap before their next class. There are desks to study once your sleep is fulfilled, and for those of you on a meal plan, upstairs, Snelling has plenty of food to go around 24 hours a day during the school week!

Upstairs of Starbucks Downtown

Starbucks is another one of those "duh" study places. Of course, one of the most infamous coffee shops in the world would be a great place to study. But in downtown Athens, this Starbucks has a secret upstairs study sanctuary. Of course, it's not actually a secret, but it's so quiet, you'd think it is! So grab a cup of your favorite drink and head on up to finish those Quizlet flashcards.

Herty Field

Another favorite of mine. On a beautiful day, Herty Field is not only home to the traditional fountain that everyone jumps into, but a great place to lay out on a blanket and soak up the sun and the Paws Secure (because the Wi-Fi actually reaches!!!). Located in North Campus, there are great views of the historic UGA buildings, including the well-known Chapel Bell. Don't forget to ring it once you ace all those finals!

Miller Learning Center (MLC/SLC)

Last, but definitely not least: The MLC. I know upperclassmen are still hanging onto the Student Learning Center or SLC, but no matter what you call it, it still holds a special place in all of our hearts. My favorite spot is the Third Floor East Wing, where there are tables, study rooms and little study cubbies if you're really getting into it. Only at the MLC can I crank out 10-page essays and print out $0.30 practice tests on a WEPA at the same time. I can also go the the second floor for a cup of Jittery Joe's, and stare endlessly out of a fourth floor window at our beautiful campus. And sometimes, I get really lucky and after an entire day of studying, I can just head down to the first floor for exams that can be conveniently scheduled in one of the lecture halls. The MLC truly becomes a home-away-from-home for me during finals, especially since it's open 24/7. But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Good luck studying for finals, and GO DAWGS!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
