Best Places To Live At Rutgers

Hands down, Rutgers is the best school in the world (don’t argue). We have got state of the art facilities, a collection of well respected and esteemed professors, fantastic athletic programs, and some of the best and brightest students from around the globe -- not to mention a campus that stretches over five different locations over the areas of both New Brunswick and Piscataway. Whether you are here or thinking about joining this wonderful, amazing, perfect (too much?) institution, here are the top six dorms to stay in on campus.

    1. The Livingston Apartments.

These new and improved babies will have you feeling like the kings and queens of campus. Sitting high on the streets of the Livingston campus, the Livi apartments are three buildings that make up the newest living space for Rutgers students. Not only are you in for wooden floors, spacious lounges and privacy, but also the benefits of the location. With the student center, the library and two bus stops just steps away, you are in the perfect living space. Of course, let's not forget about the Starbucks and movie theatre as soon as you walk out of the lobby. Definitely makes it to the top of the list for best place to live on campus.

    2. University Center at Easton Avenue.

These two bedroom apartments are just a small step down from the luxury of the Livi apartments. There are four students per apartment and spacious kitchens, private bathrooms and lounges that are available to residents. Though these apartments are not as new and improved as the ones on Livingston (built in 1994), the Easton Ave. apartments carry the charm of the College Avenue campus. Just steps away from the New Brunswick train station, the campus bookstores and of course, the hub of all food at Rutgers, Easton Avenue brings a small piece of city life to Rutgers. The Easton Avenue apartments come in at a strong second.

    3. The Crosby Suites.

Making our way across campus, the Crosby Suites at Busch definitely earned the name suite (see what I did there). Each unit holds room for six students with three bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a bathroom. The suites are the perfect place to nestle into if you would like space, privacy, and peace and quiet. Not to mention being close to the football field just in time for the season. You can never be close enough to the game!

    4. Hardenbergh Hall.

Moving away from apartments to dorms, the riverside dorms on College Ave. are a great place to stay. Not only do you have scenic views of the Raritan (as scenic as New Brunswick gets), but a bus stop right at your doorstep. The library is also just minutes away and the campus convenience store is oh so congenitally located right by you. All three of the riverside buildings are fantastic options, however in my opinion (slightly biased, shout out to sophomore year), Hardenberg Hall is the best of the three. With air conditioning and heating all year, this is a great option to live in.

    5. Newell Apartments.

For those of you with a rustic and outdoorsy side, the residence halls on the Cook/Douglass campuses are a perfect fit for you. The open, airy and grassy grounds of these campuses will transport you from the noisy and crowded areas of downtown New Brunswick. The Newell apartments on Cook are a great option for this kind of living style. The garden styled area provides open air and spacious living for students who choose to reside there.

    6. North and South Lynton Towers.

This is for all incoming freshmen: living in the towers in my first year at Rutgers was one of the best decisions I've made at Rutgers. Providing the typical freshman year experience, the North and South Lynton towers on Livingston Campus are a great option to look at when moving in. Being the most freshmen-dominated campus at Rutgers, Livingston is a great place to be to make friends with people who are all in the same boat as you. These traditional residence halls create the perfect atmosphere to be in. Not to mention the fact that both the towers are connected through a tunnel and coffee house built right in the center of both buildings.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
