Although it barely is summer yet, I already miss my school friends too much. However, the best part about living in the 21st century is that you are never truly too far apart. I love knowing that my friends are only a FaceTime away. I also love knowing we have the ability to plan a mid-summer reunion! Visiting with your school friends during the summer is the best because you are able to look forward to seeing them again.
I may not miss all the homework yet, but I do miss beautiful days where we could study together outside!
If you’re like me, you attend school in a small rural town in central Maine, often referred to as the middle of nowhere. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my school and the towns and communities that surround it, but meeting up with my school friends in the summer means we’re more likely to find a halfway point that’s easier for everyone like New York or Boston. I love changing settings and exploring new cities. When I’m with my school friends, it seems like such an exotic adventure compared to the ones we take together at school. We get to check out brand new restaurants we’ve never been to and just get lost in a new city together.
Everyone’s up to something new in the summer time. One of the best parts of seeing my school friends is getting to hear about their new internships, what they’ve been up to, their new stories, and more. Catching up in person is so much better than over Snap chat!
If you’re really lucky, then your school friends will come to you. This means you get to show off your hometown, and worlds even may collide when your school friends meet your home friends. This can be one of your favorite parts of the summer. Whether you take them to your nearby beach or shopping at your favorite town store, you know you’ll have a blast because you’re with all of your friends. When your school friends finally see the small New England town you’ve been talking about all these years they may finally understand all those stories describing what it is you find so charming about your childhood years.
When my friends come to visit me on the North shore, I plan on taking them to my favorite seaside town, Rockport, pictured above.
No matter where it is we choose to meet up, I am happy that I live in a world where it is easy to communicate over long distances. Our generation may take that for granted from time to time. I couldn’t imagine using UPS as our only medium of communication for three months. But then again, I also find it may be fun to receive a hand-written letter with my friends’ names found with their return address from time to time. And if any of my friends are reading this right now, I’d never turn down a good care package :).
