Most people who know me know that I love Christmas. Probably to an obnoxious degree.

No matter how I feel during the rest of the year, it's the Christmas season that always makes me the happiest, and I love to spread the cheer in any way possible.

Unfortunately I can't help it. I love Christmas-time for about 1,000 reasons, but of course there are a few that stick out. The sights, the smells, the traditions- it all comes together during December leading up to Christmas in a way that's unmatched during any other time of the year.

Here are some of the absolute best parts of this most wonderful time of the year:

1. The decorations

Sitting in front of our tree and writing this article, I can't help but feel joy. The lights, the stockings, the candles, and the gingerbread houses all come together to make for a beautiful and classic atmosphere.

2. The music

It's mind-blowing how many different Christmas songs there are out there, and how many different medleys there are on YouTube. There's playlists for every taste- jazz, Michael Buble, completely instrumental, upbeat, classic, or ones that last 5 hours, nonstop. Nothing can put you in a better mood than the sounds of Silent Night and Jolly Old St. Nick.

3. The food

Ham, potatoes, chicken, gingerbread, eggnog, cookies, and more. This is the perfect time of year to stay inside and make something you never have before, and with all the big parties coming up, there's plenty of cooking (and eating) to be done.

4. Giving gifts

The cliche is so true- it truly is more rewarding to give than receive. The great feeling that comes from the look on someone's face when you get them the perfect present is like no other. Not that you need an occasion to get someone a gift, but for those who you don't show enough appreciation for year-round, this is the perfect time to give.

5. The first snowfall

Some hate these New England winters but the first snowfall is usually too light and delicate to despise. When it sticks and glitters to the tops of the trees, nothing is more peaceful and beautiful.

6. The family

In the end, this is what Christmas is all about- family and tradition! Getting to spend so much time with loved ones is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season.

So get some hot cocoa and a candy cane, turn on the Christmas music, light a fire, and watch the snowfall. This season only comes around once a year!

Merry Christmas!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
