Best Of Netflix | The Odyssey Online

If you ask any university student for college survival tips, the vast majority of them will tell you to invest in a Netflix account. After finishing a grueling midterm or recuperating after a long night out celebrating the end of midterms, there's no greater pleasure than curling up in bed and losing yourself in a show or a movie for a few hours. Oftentimes, I spend more time choosing something to watch than actually watching it, so I've compiled a list of the best of Netflix.

The movie selection on Netflix is somewhat limited, but once you do some searching, there are plenty of noteworthy flicks. There are cult classics such as The Breakfast Club, Clueless, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Grease. Or if you're in the mood for some movies that are so bad they're good, just keep scrolling down in the 'Cult Classic' section. You can find some real gems that were filmed with an unbelievably low budget (or they were just filmed in Canada, like my personal favorite, Grizzly Rage).

If you're in the mood for something a little more intellectual, the documentary section is pretty impressive. Religulous, Food, Inc., and Man on Wire are all popular documentaries available for instant streaming.

Although documentaries aren't for everyone, you can never go wrong with comedies. Netflix has a wide variety of comedies, which includes 21 & Over, Jeff who Lives at Home (this one is a tear jerker), Holes, multiple Jackass films, Hot Rod, Meet the Parents, Happy Gilmore, and Super Troopers.

If you're looking for a new TV show to watch, look no further than House of Cards. I'm not one to start new series very often… I've spent the past six years religiously watching The Office. But I found myself completely hooked after watching the pilot episode of this Netflix exclusive. The show follows the conniving political ploys of Congressman, Frank Underwood and his wife. House of Cards blends drama, politics, humor, and suspense together in a perfect way. It has a steadily growing fan base, and now that a third season has been announced (and the entire second season just dropped on Valentine's day) it's sure to be the next big show.

Watching Netflix in moderation (Netflix addiction is very real) is one of the best ways to escape the stress of college. There's something available for everyone, no matter what your taste is.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
