All over the world, countless fans root for their favorite teams and athletes all over, through all seasons and climates. They bring together some countries and divide others. Most everyone has heard of the standard sports seen throughout the world like Baseball, Football (the real football you play with your feet, hence the name,) Cricket, Tennis, and many others.
However, there are some sports nowhere near as well known. They hide in the shadows, biding their time, waiting for the opportunity to step into the light of day. I'll say, a few of these (almost all of them) I had no idea about until *checks watch* about when I started to write this. That being said, take a look.
5. Extreme Ironing
This man is the one who claims to have invented the sport of extreme ironing, the act of ironing in unusual (and sometimes dangerous) places. Just looking at this video (go on, watch it. It's only a minute of your time, literally,) makes it apparent that whenever a challenge is issued, there are people willing to go the lengths to complete it.
4. Man Vs. Horse
This is the ultimate example of an argument in a pub going too far. This event has lead to an annual marathon of man against horse in Llanwrtyd Wells. Take a look and see for yourself!
3. Bog Snorkeling
Ah, yes. Bog Snorkeling. One of the more interesting sports in the world, contestants swim through a literal bog with a snorkel, using only their feet for propulsion. This activity, obviously, is not for the faint of heart. Such a...demanding sport surely deserves this spot on the list.
2. Chess Boxing
Such a beautiful game, matching wits and will in one of the most unique displays this writer has ever seen, chess boxing is exactly what it sounds like. Contestants alternate between rounds of boxing and rounds of chess and can win either through a KO or a checkmate. Through all the different sports on this list, this is one of my personal favorites.
1. Quidditch
We all knew who the real winner of this competition was always going to be. That's right, Quidditch. A game only heard of in the ancient tomes of old, the game has finally come to life in it's unique way. Colleges across the Unites States and even across the world have taken up this sport. Sans traditional flying brooms, bludgers, and snitches, this game manages to bring some semblance of life to the game, and hey, even make it fun to watch.
