5 Netflix Originals You Need To Watch Before Starting 'Friends' AGAIN

Over winter break I have had some time to watch a lot of Netflix, and I have stumbled upon some great series that I think everyone should give a try. Some have been on Netflix for a while, and some just came out in December 2018. Here are five Netflix original series that are worth the watch:

1. "Dogs"

Netflix

In this series, each episode focuses on a different dog's story. This documentary had me in tears because each dog's life is so different and the impact they make is huge. From service dogs to dogs separated countries away from owners, "Dogs" is a documentary that will really tug at your heartstrings. I 10/10 recommend for dog lovers or if you need a good cry.

2. "Grace and Frankie"

Netflix

"Grace and Frankie" follows the lives of two women who are suddenly left to cope with their husbands coming out-- but that they have been having an affair with each other for years. Grace and Frankie are quite different people, but eventually, come best friends due to their rare situation. They have to learn to live their lives without husbands, and their grown children have become the center of their lives. The show is full of comedy and I think people of all ages would enjoy this show. Season 5 is coming to Netflix on Jan. 18.

3. "Derry Girls"

Netflix

This hilarious series is only six episodes but is packed full of comedy. The plot takes place in Londonderry, or just simply Derry, Ireland, during The Troubles in the 1990s. "Derry Girls" brings comedy to such a violent time, and follows five teens as they deal with high school life, like crushes, sexuality, family life and more. It has been renewed for a second season. It also amazes me that the actors are playing teens, but all are in their mid-20s and early 30s.

4. "Nailed It"

Netflix

"Nailed It" is a great show to watch if you want to feel better about your cooking/baking skills. This show chooses some of the worst bakers in the world and has them compete to create eccentric baked goods. The judges and host Nicole Byer are hilarious, and the creations the contestants try to copy are insane, especially their finished products.

5. "The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"

Netflix

"Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" has been around since 2015, with four seasons of hilarious content. Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper, who has been in shows like "The Office," escaped a bunker with other women who were kidnapped and made part of a cult. She then has to figure out the world after being trapped in the bunker for so many years, and she still seems to have a mind frame of a teen. She makes a variety of friends, from the dramatic and fashion-forward actor Titus to her colorful landlord Lillian. It will release its final season on Jan. 25.

So if you're looking for some binge-watching material, I would definitely suggest these shows. Happy watching!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
