So, I've been pondering, as per usual. (That's right, I ponder and I'll mention it every single time)
This week's ponderings go into the department of music, bands, and all that.
My question is...why isn't the best music popular? I mean, they certainly have the talent and the attitude. So, what went wrong?
The problem for these bands is that they didn't give in and try to sound like everyone else. They went their own way, and it can be considered different, which means they strayed from the norm. There's no point to these bands existing if they were just going to sound like everybody else.
Oddly enough, these bands didn't have commercial success, but they were insanely influential. Maybe these were bands that weren't commercially popular, but they were original and stood the test of time.
Another thing I've realized in time is that it's actually great that these bands weren't commercially popular, because, they've would've ended up losing their edge. These bands are gems and you have to dig deep to find them.
A few bands that fell into this archetype include: Starz, Riot, City Boy, Axe, Strapps, Lime Spiders, Angel, Topaz, Trigger, The Laughing Dogs, Burning Rome, Clocks, Anvil, Girl, Waysted, Hellcats, Liar, White Hot Odyssey, to name just some of the bands that faded into obscurity. Drastically underrated but more than worthy of the big time. These bands are the exception.
Like I said before, the very fact that people in this day and age are able to find these bands and fall in love with their albums and fall in love with them is the coolest thing to me. It's all in the thrill of the hunt, so dig deep.
