If you're anything like me, then you love a good romance movie that makes your heart seemingly pound out of your chest as well as a dramatic movie that leaves you reaching for the tissue box. Below, I have cultivated a list of the best movies, in my opinion of course, that do just that. So, pop the popcorn and bring out the tissues with this movie list.
1. One Day
Set in various romantic cities throughout Europe, One Day showcases the complex friendship of Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew through their interactions with each other on the same day, July 15th, throughout the years. This is a movie that will make your heart swoon for and leave your eyes captivated in those of Dexter Mayhew, rooting for and against these lovers at heart.
2. Love, Rosie
Love, Rosie also examines the complicated friendship between Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart who are seemingly one step behind each other, often missing opportunities to explore their relationship. However, as the movie progresses, life begins to get in the way of their lovelife as well as their friendship. This movie will leave you believing in the strength of true friendship.
3. P.S. I Love You
Upon the loss of her other half, Holly begins hallucinating her dead husband while receiving letters that he addressed to her nearing the end of his life. P.S. I Love You takes you on a journey of a tragic loss while also providing a beautiful story of personal growth and mending a broken heart, as difficult as it may be.
4. Becoming Jane
Based on the real life story of author Jane Austen, Becoming Jane shows the loss and love within her life, transporting watchers into Austen's time and seeing how her life experiences shaped many of her novels' plots. Although it is a fairly historical movie, it does not fall short of offering drama and romance during the nineteenth century.
5. Letters to Juliet
Upon traveling to Verona, Italy, which is also known as the city of love, Sophie encounters an old letter that discusses a long lost love. Feeling drawn to Claire, the author of the letter, Sophie writes a response that drives the entire plot of the movie, helping Claire find her true love while embarking on a journey in order to find her own.
6. Me Before You
Taking place in England, Me Before You, examines the life of a caregiver, Louisa Clark, who attends to the every needs of William Traynor, who is parallized following a motorcycle accident. What was a relationship that initially began out of duty soon transformed into a relationship of companionship and love. Me Before You beautifully captures the adventures that only result when life is lived to its fullest as well as the beauty of accepting true love.
7. A Walk to Remember
A Walk to Remember follows two characters whose lives are anything but similar. One is a troubled teen who constantly rebels against authority while the other is a sheltered, humble girl whose life revolves around school and home. Out of fate, their paths begin to cross and slowly, overtime, begin to come together as the movie depicts their steadfast love.
8. Man in the Moon
Featuring a young Reese Witherspoon, the movie follows the childhood of Dani Trant who falls in love with a teenager. Sooner or later she finds herself stuck in a love triangle as Court Foster, the man Dani is in love with, falls in love with her sister. It perfectly captures the emotions involved in a first love and the pains of life, leaving the audience feeling young and in love again.
