The summer time is my favorite time to read as many books by the pool as I can before having to report back to school, work and every day life. I've read quite a few good books and they all deserve a wonderful review, but one book in particular seemed extremely relatable to many types of people. Women, in particular.
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur is a collection of short poems about love, loss and empowerment. It takes around an hour to read, and can definitely be finished in one sitting. Hopefully you have an hour or two to set aside for this book because you definitely won't want to put it down after you start it. The best way to capture people's attention, as all reality TV junkies know, is to show a little preview. So, in order to promote this book and hopefully convince some of you to read it, I have included some of, what I think to be, the best lines in the book.
1. "My heart woke me crying last night / how can i help i begged / my heart said / write the book"
2. "i do not want to have you / to fill up the empty parts of me / i want to be full on my own / i want to be so complete / i could light a whole city"
3. "this is where you must / understand the difference / between want and need / you may want that boy / but you certainly / don't need him"
4. "people go / but how / they left / always stays"
5. "you must enter a / relationship / with yourself / before anyone else"
6. "and you / must never / trade honesty / for reliability"
7. "i am sending my love to your eyes. may they always see goodness in people. and may you always practice kindness. may we see each other as one. may we be nothing short of in love with everything the universe has to offer. and may we always stay grounded. rooted. our feet planted firmly onto the earth."
8. "accept that you deserve more / than painful love / life is moving / the healthiest thing / for your heart is / to move with it"
9. "if you were born with / the weakness to fall / you were born with / the strength to rise"
10. "accept yourself / as you were designed"
