The Best Lessons Learned From One Tree Hill

I've recently finished all nine seasons of One Tree Hill, and I've never cried more in my life. Not only has OTH been my Netflix go-to, it's also taught me life lessons I will never let go of. Here are seven lessons I've learned:

1. People can always change.

No matter how many times someone betrays you like Dan Scott betrayed everyone, remember there is good in every person. With the worst heart (literally) and actions Dan Scott proved that you can make amends with anyone if you set your mind and heart to it.

2. You never know what people are going through.

The school shooting episode was one for the books. Bless my emotions, because this episode absolutely took them by surprise. I will always remember this episode and how important it was/is. It's very clear that actions speak louder than words, so be careful of what you say before it's too late.

3. Time Flies.

"One day you're seventeen and planning for someday. And then, quietly, without ever really noticing, someday is today." This quote truly speaks for itself, never take life or time for granted. Spare the time you have with the people you care about before life takes them away.

4. Be Yourself.

Watching this series I remembered Lucas stayed true to himself, he did what would make HIM and his mom happy, and I loved that. If you are never who you want to be, you will definitely never be happy. Embrace yourself and all you have to offer. And lastly, remember to love yourself wholeheartedly.

5. The journey is the destination.

Maybe your goal in life is to graduate with a masters degree, maybe it's to travel all around the world, or maybe it's to own 10 dogs and 3 cats. Whatever your goal in life is, remember to never forget the memories of the journey while at the destination. "Joy is not found in finishing an activity but in doing it." -G.A.

6. People will leave.

And that's okay. As much as we wish it wasn't apart of life, it sadly is. No matter who it is, He took them out for a reason. Maybe He was calling them home, or taking them out of your life so you can be a better person Whatever the reason may be, remember it wasn't your fault.

7. You will make it through the hardships.

You only live this life once so you have to make the best of it. Losing a friend, heartbreak, or whatever else life unexpectedly throws at you are all things you will be able to make it through. Just look at the cast and how much they have had to overcome within 9 seasons. And remember you'll get through everything.

P.S. GO WATCH ONE TREE HILL ON NETFLIX!!!!!!!!!!

P.P.S. No one is better than the Scott brothers.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
