I have a confession to make. I very rarely get by with only one dinner a day. Technically, this isn't exactly a confession, because anyone who knows me at all is probably already aware of this. The fact is, after finishing schoolwork, sending end of the day emails, and coming home from my very last meetings, it feels like the meal I ate at 6:30 p.m. might as well have been 12 hours ago.
Luckily, after being here for three years, I have found a remedy for my problem in all the late night options in Charleston where I can satisfy my stomach one last time before I go to bed. I'm lucky enough to have two amazing roommates who help feed my late night food addiction, and make great companions on these trips. Here are some of our favorite late night places!
Sonic. Okay, this isn't exactly a Charleston original, but it's definitely a people's favorite. My personal favorite thing on the menu is their wide variety of slushies -- probably not the best thing to order right before bed, but I can never resist. Their tots and popcorn chicken are other immediate go-tos.
Cocktail Club. I actually haven't gotten to try their food, yet. However, I was delighted to find out last time I went for a drink that they have an amazing late night menu, featuring bacon popcorn and hotdogs, just to name a couple of my favorite things. This is on my list of places to hit up next time I'm craving food after 10 p.m.!
Kaminsky's/TBonz. Tollhouse pie, chocolate mousse, dessert martinis -- what's not to love about Kaminsky's? I don't think there's ever been a time when I've turned it down. An added bonus for late night dining is TBonz, the steakhouse attached to the famous dessert bar. They feature a special late night dinner menu that ranges from burgers and crab cakes to jalepeno cheese stuffed pretzels! What a utopia.
Hot dog guys on King St. C'mon, this is a given. A lot of my friends have a personal favorite cart they go to. However, I tend to base it on convenience and location because a hot dog is a hot dog. I guess I'm just not all that cuisine-savvy.
Cookout. No list of late night food options would be complete without the Cookout. Again, not exactly specific to Charleston, but you can't beat their milkshake options and their $4.59 combo deal. A burger, chicken nuggets, onion rings, and a drink? What more could you ask for?
