It's be a wild ride for " Disney's Animal Kingdom " ever since their grand opening in April of 1998. Glorious details went into the masterminding behind this animal world. We have seen this park grow in size and in heart. From the crisp smell of flowering green plants, to the sight of colorful prayer flags hanging delicately in the baby blue sky.
If you have ever been to Animal Kingdom, you understand and know these things I am describing. With April 22nd being the 20 year anniversary of "Disney's Animal Kingdom," I thought I might share some saucy secrets about the park to celebrate.
1. Saving the earth one drink at a time
All, I repeat, ALL of the straws in Disney's Animal Kingdom are paper straws. This way, they are biodegradable and they will not litter the environment.
2. Trees of green
Each and every one of the leaves on the Tree of Life were placed on their individual branches, imagine having to do that work.
3. A new kind of recycle
While strolling the streets of Animal Kingdom, keep an eye out for a stand with unique, homemade bracelets for sale. The bracelets are actually made completely out of recycled materials, like plastic bags for example.
4. Hidden condiments
In the last room for the ride queue at the DINOSAUR attraction, there are red, white, and yellow pipes placed in front of a cement pillar. Each pipe has chemical formulas, words, and symbols on them. If you decode each one, you will find this. Red Pipe: Lycopersicon lycopericum is tomato, C6H12O6 is Sugar or Corn Syrup, CH3COOH is Vinegar, NaCl is Salt, and allium cepa is onion. These are all ingredients for ketchup. You'll then find the yellow pipe is mustard, and finally mayonnaise for the white.
5. Boogey with the Disco Yeti
The Yeti on "Expedition Everest" was meant to be an audio-animatronic (moving and talking life-like robot), but they ended up making him too big, so they added flashing strobe lights during the section of the ride that the yeti is present. This creates the illusion of the yeti moving towards you, but really he is standing still. Despite his lack of movement, he still earned the nickname, the "Disco Yeti."
6. The Trees are alive with the sound of music
Watch closely within the trees that tower over the park, you might just find a walking tree. At Animal Kingdom, occasional "tree dancers" will disguise themselves as tall plants and sweep through the trees while trying not to be seen. So, keep an eye out.
7. Prayer Flags
In (Animal Kingdom's) Asia, you will notice colorful, square flags draping down from long lines of twine. Prayer flags are found in the Himalayas, and they represent compassion, peace, strength, and wisdom. They are meant to bring balance and goodwill to the space surrounding them. Pretty cool, huh?
Watch out for these neat secrets on your next trip to Disney!
