The Best Gifts For Journalism Majors

We're journalists. We're storytellers, critical thinkers, communicators, and researchers. We are creative, enjoy expressing ourselves through our writing, and possess a wide range of skills. But-most of all- we hate math. Here are some of the best gifts you could give to a journalism major to make them smile this holiday season.

Polaroid cameras.

Many journalists enjoy photo-journaling. Cameras that print polaroids are fun, relatively inexpensive, and will never go out of style. There is something special about being able to hold a physical photo -- rather than have all digital photos on a device --that journalists enjoy.

Artwork.

We're college students, and our living spaces are as bland as can be. As journalists, we like to be creative, and looking at art can help get our juices flowing. And make our rooms prettier.

Nice pens.

Yes, there is a difference between a Papermate Black Cap and a Pilot G2.

Laptop.

Most students have a laptop going into college. This is almost a necessity for any major. Journalism majors in particular, however, do a large amount of writing, so laptops are even more crucial to our success.

Lap-desk.

A lap-desk is great for late nights studying, when you need to switch up locations and get away from your desk to stay alert and refreshed.

A new planner.

It's important for us to stay organized in order to keep track of all of our deadlines and commitments. A new planner is the perfect holiday gift because the new year is right around the corner!

Books.

While we may not have a ton of time on our hands for leisurely reading, it's something that most of us love to do.

Noise canceling headphones.

One of the best gifts I have ever received, that has actually been useful to me in college, are my Bose noise canceling headphones. They make it possible for me to stay concentrated whether at the library or in my room, because they block out any extra noise or distractions that may interfere with my studying. While they are pricey, they are an amazing and useful purchase.

Caffeine.

Coffees, mugs, teas, cups -- we love it all.

Notebooks.

It's always nice for us to have an extra notebook around, if needed.

New gadgets.

We love high-tech digital cameras, action cameras, smartphones, laptops, and devices.

Surprise a journalism major with any of these gift ideas this year!

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
