Best Friends Til The End

A best friend will be by your side no matter what the situation is.

What truly is a best friend?

Well, I'll tell you.

A best friend is someone who answers the phone at three in the morning when you are having a panic attack from all of the built up problems in your life. They are someone who holds you accountable for your actions. A best friend calms you down when you feel like your world has been turned upside down, and I'll be damned if I don't have the best one that has ever walked this earth.

Now let me tell you about my best friend.

My best friend was the only person to be nice to me when I moved to her school in second grade. She has stood next to me through all of the highs and lows that I have encountered so far. She's has never questioned my judgement, just politely told me her opinion on the situation. Since the day that I met her, I have never once questioned whether she would have my back. She has been my rock and my shoulder to cry on through the toughest situations that life has thrown my way.

My best friend knows how to make me laugh at times when I don't even want to smile. Even though I live six hours away from her, I know that I can always count on her to be there for me when I need her. She has grown to be more than my best friend, but instead, my family. Family is forever and that's how long my loyalty to this friendship will last.

So, to my best friend:

Thank you for being nice to me 12 years ago because I never would have been able to make it through all of these years without you. You have lifted me up and put me back on my feet countless times, and I am not sure how I will ever repay you. You have shown me what it is like to have someone that you can always count on. I love the fact that even if we don't talk for a while, it's like no time has passed at all. The only difference is that we have a lot more to share with each other. You have been my go to since as long as I can remember because I know that you will never let me down. You have been the biggest blessing, and I will never be able to express in words how thankful I am to have you in my life. You will forever hold a place in my heart. Thank you for always pushing me to do what I love, and for never judging me for my failures. You have been my backbone since I was seve years old and most likely will be until the day that I die. Thank you for always having my best interest at heart, and for encouraging me to to things to my full potential. You will never know how much your friendship really means to me, but without you I wouldn't be the person that I am today. Thank you for being my person.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
