Never Take Your Grandparents For Granted
Haleigh Shrensel

Grandparents are special people. They are one of the first people to welcome you into this world. They love you unconditionally. They spoil you. They give endless advice. They encourage you. They do it all.

Grandparents are always there for us, offering advice while we get older. Always attending important school / sport events. Making sure we pick the right college and help us with whatever it is to make sure we get there and get the degree at the end.

One thing that we often forget is that, as we get older, so do they. Time passes so much faster than we realize and we never know how much longer we’ll get with them. They never get tired of hearing thank you or I love you. Whether you realize it or not, that simple two minute phone call you give them actually means the world to them.

Never forget to thank them for standing by your side while you figured out what and who you wanted to be. Thank them for being such amazing role models and always giving amazing advice. Thank them for the endless presents and love. But most of all, thank them for being them and loving you unconditionally.

There is no doubt in my mind that my grandparents are two of the most important people in my lives. They helped raise me, they are the reasons I’m in college, they constantly give me support and encouragement in everything I do, and most of all, they are my rocks in life. Of course I’m beyond grateful for my parents, friends and so on, but when it comes to my grandparents, they’re my everything.

So to my gram and pop,

As your granddaughter, I want you to never forget how much you mean to me. I owe a lot of who I am and where I am right now to you guys. If it wasn’t for you guys I don’t think I'd be half of the girl I am today. I hope one day I'm as strong and as smart as you two. Your love for each other only makes me hope that one day I find that kind of love when I’m older too. You guys have made me strong and never let me give up in anything I do. Yeah sure, sometimes you were hard on me, but it only helped me. With our endless memories, I know i'll never take them for granted and will always cherish them. Thank you for always being my support system but most of all, thank you for always being my best friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
