To My Best Friends In Different Places

Life isn't the same without seeing you guys every day.

To My Best Friends In Different Places
Laura Franklin

My dearest friends,

Remember whenever we said that we'd all probably end up in the exact same place after high school? The things we said that we'd get to do together and the foretelling of memories we'd have? Well, I don't mean to sound so negative but our plans didn't exactly go that way.

Each of us have been called to separate places to study or do different things. We've chosen specific fields that fit our interests and skills that any college or workplace could offer but we didn't end up in the same place. The places we chose sparked our interests differently, and at times we didn't really like what the other options had to offer, so we went with what we felt most comfortable with.

You know what? That's all right. Honestly, it's best that we're comfortable with where we are because it would only make the experience worse if we weren't. Of course, going through college without having you all by side isn't a cake walk but there are some things that I want you guys to know:

No one can ever replace you guys. Yes, I have made so many friends here but they can't permanently replace you guys. We'll make great memories together and laugh about almost anything but those memories won't compare to the great ones we've made throughout our times in elementary, middle, and high school. It's more than okay for each of us to make new friends and add them to our crazy little family. In fact, I encourage it! The last thing I'd want for you and for myself is to be completely lonely without friends or other people to count on.

Not only that, but I talk about you guys all the time. I tell everyone I know about our crazy antics in middle school (yes, I know. I'm sorry), the exciting extracurricular activities we did together, our summer trips, and the sheer joy we've shared throughout the years. The times that we've had are special, cherished, and incomparable to the times that we'll have in the future.

I also want you guys to know that I am up for another adventure anytime we have breaks from college. Whether it's a night out doing something fun or going out to eat lunch and catch up on things, I'd be happy to do it!

Above all, I just want you guys to keep in mind that I miss you. I miss sitting next to you guys in every class we had together, our ridiculous conversations at lunch and in the halls, the long trips going to different extracurricular events and back, and the times that we've spent just ranting about whatever's on our mind.

You guys are the greatest friends I could ever have, and nothing will ever change that. I love you guys.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
