As I reminisce on my last three years in college, I can't help but have my best friend come to mind. For those of you who have a best friend from your college days, hopefully this is a good reminder for you. For those of you who are not in college yet, this is something to look forward to.

Disclaimer: You can have best friends and not go to college.

Here are 4 ways you know you've found your best friend in college:

1. You start talking like one another.

One of the ways you know you have a best friend in college is when you start talking like each other. My best friend and I say "bro", "dude" or "man" at least 50 times in every single on of our conversations. Whenever we greet each other, we always do the same handshake. Also, however one of us talks, the other one automatically matches the intonation of their voice. It is something we don't think about, but shows we hang out a lot—maybe too much.

2. You develop separation anxiety.

Whenever you go anywhere without your best friend in college, you feel like there is a part of you missing. Class, lunch, the store—whatever it may be. When you go places without your best friend, you suddenly it seems like you have no idea how to function. You immediately text them asking where they are—even when you just talked to them 15 minutes before.

The sign of true best friends: To feel separation when you are apart.

3. Real talks happen every day.

You know you have a best friend in college when every day ends in each other's rooms with a serious talk about life. Conversations include hard things, funny things and serious things all wrapped up into one talk. Another sign you are best friends is when that time seems to pass by so quickly—even though you talked for two hours. Even when both of you feel like you don't have time to talk, it happens anyways.

4. Other people ask where your best friend is.

You know you have a best friend when you go to a place by yourself and people are asking where your friend is. Both of you are close that people start to associate both of you as one uni—inseparable. If people see you by yourself, without your best friend, they ask you if something is wrong. That is when you know you have a best friend.

There are plenty of other signs to know you have a best friend in college, but these are just some highlights.

I hope all of you have these friends in college.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
