5 Ways To Survive And Thrive On A Road Trip With Your Best Friend
Lauren Hernandez

This July, my best friend and I went to San Luis Obispo, California for a mini vacation and my birthday! We drove five hours to get there, but it was ALL worth it in the long run.

Here's how we survived our first vacation without our parents:

Beach All Day, Every Day!

Avila Beach, San Luis Obispo, California

We went to the beach all day every day!

We stayed around 4 hours each day at Avila Beach, tanning and swimming in the ocean! We also went shopping at the surf shops, where we found cute anklets and stickers!

The best food we had at Avila Beach was a giant açaí bowl and some snow cones during the SLO heatwave!

We even went to the beach for a sunset photo shoot and once late at night to look at the stars!

Donuts Every Day!

My favorite dessert spot in San Luis Obispo is SloDoCo. The San Luis Obispo Donut Company has every donut you can ever dream of!

The Slo Donut Company serves donuts 24/7 and host events every month such as live music. The shop sells vegan donuts, rainbow donuts, and lavender, mint, and crème brûlée flavored donuts!

During my time there, we went to SloDoCo every day and even made a couple friends. I would definitely recommend to anyone going to Slo to make a pit stop at this local donut shop!

Stock Up On Sun Bum!

We spent an average of four hours a day tanning and an even a longer period of time on the beach!

To protect our skin and smell like their signature banana fragrance, we used Sun Bum products every day. We used their sunscreen, after-sun aloe, leave-in conditioner, hand sanitizer, and lip balm.

What can we say, it's our favorite!

We Spent All Our Money At Surf Shops!

On my birthday, we spent the whole day shopping and exploring Downtown San Luis Obispo!

We went to multiple surf shops, boutiques, and even the gum wall! One of the best things we had was ice cream at Doc Burnstein's Ice Cream Lab!

After a full day of shopping, we realized we spent most of our money at a local surf shop, where bought Sex Wax air fresheners, candles, and lots and lots of stickers!

We Ate Good Every Day!

Açaí on the beach

Eating açaí on the beach was definitely one of the highlights of this trip! It was very satisfying and made an awesome Instagram story!

We also went to many dessert shops where we got frozen yogurt, ice cream, and donuts! We weren't the healthiest on this trip especially getting Starbucks every day!

We were also able to try many local San Luis Obispo restaurants famous to their town such as High Street Deli!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

Who could be a better friend than your own sister?

sisters

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. So, if you are aware that you’re a Starbucks addict as well, or maybe you need to check to see if you’re an addict, here are seven ways to tell.

College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective. The following aren’t foolproof tips and may not apply to you, but I was able to find success with them (hope you do too!)
