To The Best Friend I Met My Freshman Year Of College

Dear Friend,

Do you remember when you messaged me on Instagram saying you saw we were going to the same college? I probably was very shy and one worded at first. I remember after our conversation I thought about it and something told me that you were a nice person. I let only specific people in my small circle of good friends and I saw something in you, I sensed your kindness.

When I met you at one of our incoming freshman days, I was again pretty shy. "Hey! You're the girl from Instagram! I'm Nicolette."

One year later and I am incredibly grateful that you have entered my life. We act like sisters or as if we met when we were little kids. Like I mentioned, I do not go out there and make myself sociable, but I am glad I started being your friend. From doing photoshoots around campus to just sitting and having motivational talks we always manage to be there for each other and share good laughs. I am comfortable telling you about my life and you are the same with me. Thank you for helping me when I was feeling sad or having a rough day, thank you for being such a generous person to every single person you meet.

Your bravery throughout your struggles and battles have inspired me. You inspire me with the bravery you posses. You not only struggle with a invisible illness, but you go to college and are away from home to. You are pushing yourself to reach your goals and going out of your comfort zone and that is so brave and amazing. There are many people in this world struggling right now with battles and you are fighting everyday with your invisible illness like how I am with mine. Although we do not have the same battles, we both can relate to the inner pain and can motivate each other to keep going whenever our illnesses decide to strike. You love quotes and poetry like me and I know that writing can help us express our feelings and make us feel better. You have so much courage and people need to have a positive attitude like you in life.

You have made such an impact in my life and I hope you know how amazing you are. So many people think you are the sweetest individual and I agree with them. If anything is trying to bring down your happiness, do not let it. As our favorite singer Tyler Joseph says "Don't give up, push through the droughts. Channel the inevitable disappointments back into your craft. Break molds, think, create. But, most importantly, stay alive."

Staying alive through it all is what makes people like you stronger every single day.

College has been an amazing experience so far, but one of my favorite things about freshman year is that I met a new best friend who has become an un-biological sister. Thank you again, you have changed my life for the better and I cannot wait for us to continue college, graduate, become successful adults and outstanding teachers. Our friendship will not fade away and you have done more for me than people I met long ago. I gained someone in my life when I lost people I thought I would have forever. When people say you lose people for better ones, they are correct. You entered my life for a purpose and I hope you know your place in this world is to be the kind individual you are.

From sending each other quotes, having Twenty One Pilot jam sessions, and just helping each other with life, you are there. And I will always be there for you.

Sincerely,

Nicolette :)

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition." You are commonly asked what's wrong, when nothing is. What people don't know is that is just your facial expression. Here are some things they wish you knew.
