To My Best Friend, Never Forget How Much You Mean to Me

When you're feeling down, I want to lift you back up.

To My Best Friend, Never Forget How Much You Mean to Me
Peyton Kline

To my best friend,

Nothing frustrates me more than to hear you talk down on yourself because I know better than anyone how much you deserve to be happy. There are so many reasons that you are one of my favorite people in this entire world, and as much as I wish that you could see yourself through my eyes for a day to understand how incredible I think you are, all I can do is tell you over and over again until someday, maybe, you'll finally believe me. So, for those days when you're feeling down, these are some things I want you to remember.

You are the most beautiful person I have ever met, inside and out.

There is a reason that everyone you meet can't help but like you, and if they don't, there's something wrong with them. You are the kindest and most genuine person I know and I couldn't be more proud to call you my best friend. You truly light up a room and have infectious energy to go along with your amiable personality. Never feel the need to change who you are or silence your voice for anyone because your authenticity is one of the most beautiful things about you.

Stop being so hard on yourself.

As much as you think that one bad grade or one mistake or one imperfection is literally the end of the world as we know it, I promise it isn't. Not everything is going to work out how you envision it and I know you find that hard to accept sometimes, but things will work out, and even if they don't, you're going to be okay. You are one of the smartest and most determined people I know and I'm positive that your future will be nothing short of amazing.

Don't settle for anything less than you deserve.

Even if someone does you wrong, you like to make excuses for them, because that's just the kind of person you are. While your kindness is something that I love about you, recognize your worth and know when to walk away from someone who isn't treating you in the way that you deserve, ESPECIALLY some stupid boy. It's not worth your time or worries, and who needs boys when you have a long distance relationship with me?

I love you unconditionally and will support you always.

We may not talk every single day or live in the same state right now, but that doesn't lessen how much love I have for you. You have impacted my life in so many positive ways and you inspire me each and every day. You always make it known how much you care about me, constantly checking up on me and supporting me no matter what and I hope that I reciprocate that support. Our friendship is something that I deeply value and I never want you to forget that I am always here for you, through the good, the bad, and everything in between, forever and always!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
