To My Best Friend I Just Met This Semester

Dear Best Friend,

Hi, I know we just met this semester but I know how much I already love you. I love that we immediately got along when we were introduced by a mutual friend. I love how much you love Disney. I love how you get me and do not let me get into my own head. I love how you already support my decisions even though most of them are stupid. I love how much you support me in general already. I love how close we already are. I love that I met you and that you're just as quirky as I am. I love that you understand that I am a chaotic mess all the time. I love when you say I'm a "good noodle". I love when you explain how you are feeling because honestly I want to listen and help you solve your problems. Basically, I love that you care about me and I am so happy we met.

When you meet someone usually you know if you're going to get along and become friends. I had that feeling when I met you in class. I knew we would be good together. It is always a great feeling to relate to someone and this is another property that drew me to you. Even though we have different backgrounds and stories I feel like we relate in ways that only best friends can.

Another thing about you is that I love how supportive you are. I call you and you answer. You tell me what's up and how I am acting. You tell me if I am being ridiculous and aren't afraid of what I will say if you try and talk sense into me. I promise you i need sense talked into me, remember I am a class A mess, but that's part of my charm. However, you know that fact.

What it all comes down to is that you'll indulge me and I will do the same for you. I honestly believe that we met so we could become best friends and see where our journey in college and our major will take us together. I know you will do great things and I have so much faith in you and your abilities. I appreciate you. You are you and that is what I like. I wish you would see the way I see you or how so many other people see you, because then you would be so much happier and prouder of yourself. However, I am here to help with that.

To end I just want to say thank you for being my best friend in this short amount of time and I honestly hope that you and I have more time and continue to be best friends.

Basically, Hi I love you.

Sincerely,

Deirdre

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
