After hearing the horror stories from my three older siblings about their roommates, I was extremely nervous about having to live with another person in college. My sisters warned me against rooming with a friend, but I disregarded their advice and chose to do it anyway.

Even though I ignored their suggestion, I still feared that my rooming situation would turn sour within a few weeks. Living with someone changes everything, even if you have a solid foundation for your friendship. You basically see your friends everyday in college, but if you want an escape, you can take shelter in your dorm. This is no longer an option if you choose to share a living space with the exact person that you need a break from.

I spent the week before moving in creating scenarios in my head about all the things I could do wrong. What if my alarm clock kept waking her up? What if I accidentally spill something on her side of the room? What if I annoy her with my midnight snacking?

Somehow, I got lucky. I received one of the best roommates I could ever ask for. She is always looking out for me in so many ways, but there a few things she does that really make her the stellar roommate.

1. She Doesn't Judge Me if I Am Lazy

If I just want to skip a day at the library and instead watch Netflix in my bed for hours, she always supports my decision.

2. She Listens to My Problems

When I'm having a difficult day or just want to rant about all the homework I have, she will stop what she's doing to hear me out and validate my frustration.

3. She Supports My Chai Tea Latte Addiction

She even offers to pay for my lattes if she has a few dollars on her. I don't need the extra encouragement, but I appreciate it.

4. She is a Cat Person

She can always comfort me by showing pictures of her own cat back home when I'm missing mine. That is the kind of energy I need in my life.

5. She Accepts My Snacking Habits

I tend to snack a lot, especially when I'm particularly stressed before an exam. If it's one in the morning and I pull out some potato chips, she never blinks an eye.

6. She's a Heavy Sleeper

This isn't something she does purposely, but I am grateful for it anyway. I always worry that the light from my phone will keep her awake at night. Thankfully, she's out cold the second she closes her eyes.

7. She Asks About My Day

Whenever we reunite in the room at night, she asks me how my day was and genuinely seems to care.

8. She Knows How to Cheer Me Up

She is there to offer a shoulder to cry on, but she also is there to joke with me through self-deprecating humor.

Sarah, thank you for everything you do. I am so grateful that we chose each other as roommates, and I am even more grateful that you can fall asleep in three seconds flat.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
