Roommates and best friends all in one.

To my roommate,

Even though we’ve only spent six weeks together you are like a sister, mom, best friend, therapist and doctor all in one. Everyone has their problems with their roommates and usually end up hating each other. That’s not the case for us at all. Yes, sometimes we have our petty fights but we never stay mad for too long.

I live for our late night drives we take exploring Macomb. I’m sorry about my horrible singing at the top of my lungs when my jams are on. Also, I love it when we make unexpected Walmart runs just for the fun of getting out the dorms. Even if we don’t need anything, it’s nice spending some quality time together just the two of us. You take some funny videos of us singing aloud I will forever cherish and save those.

I was lucky enough to find you on the roommate matching and find out that we both are Social Work majors! I knew after talking to you on Facebook that you weren’t like the roommates off of the horror movies. Instead, I was blessed with such an amazing person who has turned into my best friend. We both have an advantage of helping each other with our homework when we actually know what we're learning.

We have so much in common and laugh about the dumbest things together. I love how we can just break out into a dance when music is played together. We already have hundreds of inside jokes and much more to come. You are the first person I go to for everything like what outfit to wear, workout routines, movies or what to eat. Thank you for going to dinner with me across campus even if you weren’t that hungry. I know I’m not the easiest person to live with but you somehow handle living with me.

Weekends are best spent with you when we play with my Game Cube or have a girls night watching movies. I have never met someone so similar to me. I’m so glad I met you and we are roommates. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Thanks for staying up late and talking to me when I needed someone to vent too...even if it was late on a school night.

I always miss you when you're gone at class or when you go home on the weekends. It does get lonely in the dorm being by myself. It just makes me realize how much I love having your company. Words won't ever explain the bond we share. I can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes for us.

Thank you for everything you do. I love you so much

Love, Hannah

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
