I went through all of the books on my Goodreads account as well as all the books in my room and have finally compiled a list of ten book men that I feel are my favorites.
10. Gilbert Blythe - "Anne of Green Gables" by L. M. Montgomery
I don’t think there is a girl out there that doesn’t want a Gilbert in her life. He is almost the perfect man. He does the things a young boy does when he likes a girl, like tease her and pull her hair, but Gilbert saw the error of his ways and apologized to Anne when he realised that he hurt her. Their story is just so cute!
9. Peter Pan - "Peter and Wendy" by J. M. Barrie
Peter Pan is my favorite! He has a perfect amount of devious little kid in him. I like the idea of never growing up because being a poor college student just rocks! Remember kids: keep adventuring and don't grow up!
8. Miles Linwood - "For Elise" by Sarah M. Eden
Miles is always happy (even though my roommate would argue that he isn’t) and when he speaks to Elise or Anne, you have no choice but to smile and be happy. In the book he saves Elise from many dark places, and is such a strong and amazing man. Every girl out there needs a Miles Linwood in her life somehow.
7. Prince Kai - "The Lunar Chronicles" by Marissa Meyer
Kaii is a great character! He is so passionate for his country and the people; he would literally do anything for them. He is so sweet to Cinder even though he is a prince and she is a working-class citizen. And on top of that, he is Cinderella’s prince. What could be better than that?
6. Fred Weasley - "Harry Potter" series by J. K. Rowling
You knew I was going to have a Harry Potter character in here somewhere. Fred is happiness personified. He is a prankster and a brilliant character. When you read about Fred in the books you kinda just fall for him, and I am sure it wasn’t meant to be like that because he isn’t a main character, but I just love him and all the great things he says!
5. Crispin Handle - "Kiss of a Stranger" by Sarah M. Eden
Crispin, Crispin, Crispin. Man, what can I say about you. Crispin, after he drops his cynical air, is a playful person. He wants nothing more in the world than to make Catherine happy. He even pilfers sweets and inspects his tea to keep a smile on her face. He would throw himself into the nearest fountain for his dear Catherine. Most of you probably don’t understand why that is so funny and sweet, so READ THE BOOK!
4. Neville Longbottom - "Harry Potter" series by J. K. Rowling
Here's another Harry Potter character for you. Neville is my hero. He starts out a wimpy character that can’t even throw a punch to a character that can blow up a building with a single look. He is such a powerful wizard and it makes me happy that he went from zero to hero. He makes me feel like I can do anything if he could do that.
3. Henry Delafield - "Blackmoore" by Julianne Donaldson
Henry is my knight in shining armor. His whole life he has been sweet on this girl and would literally do anything for her. Kate and Henry are best friends and have been for pretty much their whole lives. He would find a way to move the Himalayas to America for her, if that was what she asked, but all she asked is to see his house, Blackmoor Manor, on the Moors of Scotland. So many things happen, but let's just say he emotionally tortures himself to see her happy. Henry... Man, if he was real, I would marry him right now!
2. Sir Percy Blakeney - "The Scarlet Pimpernel" by Baroness Emmuska Orczy
Percy! AHHHHHHH! I don’t know how he does it, but I hear his name and a smile comes to my face. He is such a deep character. You just want to dissect his brain so that you understand how and why he does everything he does. Even though the book is from Marguerite's point of view, you still fall in love with him in every form. The one chapter that is from Percy’s point of view is one of the most romantic things I have ever read! I just can’t stand how much I love this character.
1. Mr. George Knightley - "Emma" by Jane Austen
I know y’all were probably thinking this would be Mr. Darcy. For most people it is. I just have never read such a great and honest character as Mr. Knightley in all my life. Knightley has such a quick wit and it isn’t rude. You know he is teasing, and that is something that really bothered me about Darcy: you never know if he is being serious or not. Mr. Knightley is happy and makes Emma happy and that makes me happy. There is just so many great things about Mr. Knightley that I can’t write them all unless you want a 20-page paper, which I don’t think you do. Suffice it to say that he is my number one for a reason. Mr. Knightley truly is the perfect man.
I hope you enjoyed reading a little about my favorite fictional men. It was really hard narrowing down to ten. I think my original list had like 34 or something like that, so consider yourselves lucky.
