New Jersey residents are very passionate people, especially when it comes to their traditions. Diners may have been around for centuries, but the trend is still going strong here in Jersey. I've lived in both South and North Jersey and I've always been a frequent diner-goer. Everyone has their favorite go to hangover place, and I'm about to tell you about your new place.
Angelo's Diner in Glassboro opened in 1946, and hasn't changed a bit since then.
This place is a generation tradition, as my grandfather frequented Angelo's when he was young and it was referred to as "The Greasy Spoon." While it might be a little bit less greasy than it was in the 60s, it's still the best diner food around.
Located in rural southern New Jersey, Angelo's is becoming more popular as Rowan University continues to grow. Directly across the street from Rowan's Campus and Barnes & Noble store, Angelo's has become a popular stop for hungover college students on Friday mornings. For Glassboro residents such as myself, the visits are much better in the summer when there are less Rowan students to take up all the tables.
Situated right outside of college town on Main Street, Angelo's is just a tiny little trailer with only a few booths and a bar to sit at. A hole in the wall place that you probably wouldn't look twice at when driving by-but that's the best part. With a 4 star rating on Yelp and a 4.5 star rating on Facebook, Angelo's is the best kept secret. The wait for a booth can be a few minutes as the inside is so small, but the quick and cheap service will be fully worth the wait.
While Angelo's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I personally only order the breakfast there, no matter what time of day it is. My family enjoys going on weekends or special occasions for a sit down breakfast together. I also tend to go with my friends in the morning after a night out, because diner food seems to be the best way to cure a hangover.
Besides the great service and good food, Angelo's is the best because of the prices. My breakfast can typically cost anywhere between 4-6 dollars, and I can barely finish all my food. After waiting a few minutes for a seat, getting your food usually only takes a few minutes in itself depending how busy it is, and so it makes a perfect quick stop on the way out or before class. This diner is the best thing to ever happen to Rowan students as well as the rest of the Glassboro community.
The only downfall with Angelo's is that it is not open 24 hours a day, and they do not accept credit cards yet. Then again, when you're getting $4 breakfast out of a trailer while being so hungover you barely made it out of bed, are you in any place to complain?
