The Best Christmas Movie That You've Probably Never Seen

Are you feeling the Christmas Movie Fever yet? Christmas is still a couple days away, but Christmas movies have been playing since December 1. I'm sure you've faithfully watched A Nightmare Before Christmas and The Grinch (all three versions) already.

But have you ever seen Uncle Buck?

Over the last few years, my family and I have watched Uncle Buck during Christmas time. It's become a tradition--but it definitely had to work its way into our good graces. Momma forced us to watch it the first time, and though we didn't want to like it at first (we were rebellious teenagers, can you blame us?), it turned out to be a feel-good comedy about the importance of family.

To summarize, an already dysfunctional suburban family is forced into calling carefree and childless Uncle Buck to come babysit a rebellious teen and her two lively siblings and hold the house down during the holidays. There's so many hilarious scenes in this movie, but my favorite is the giant pancake scene. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about, but if you haven't, you should definitely go watch!

The movie doesn't exactly center on Christmas itself but its events occur during Christmas time. Made in the 80s, Uncle Buck features iconic actors like Macaulay Culkin and the late John Candy, a comedian who according to my mom "left us too soon." We tend to like comedies in our household. Home Alone, another classic Christmas movie, used to be our favorite until we discovered Uncle Buck. We get to see childhood star Macaulay Culkin either way, it seems.

Here are some other great Christmas movies that you might not have seen: Trading Places, A Christmas Carol (the old one, not the Disney version), any of the Hallmark Christmas movies, The Princess Switch (this is on Netflix)!

Wishing everyone a Happy Holidays, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your winter break!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
