The 10 Most Festive, Cheesiest, Jolliest Christmas Movies To Watch In December

Besides Hallmark movies because those are a no brainer.

The best part of the Christmas season (Besides the decorations and food and music, OK maybe everything is great about Christmas.) is cheesy ooey-gooey Christmas movies. There are a lot of Christmas movies out there and some are horrifically terrible. Well, I'm here to give you the best cheesiest movies of the season. Of course, for now. Netflix and Freeform (formerly ABC Family) plan on several more Christmas movies this year.

I guess I'll just have to make this a yearly tradition... Stay tuned for next years Christmas movie list!

1. "A Christmas Prince"

Netflix

This Netflix original movie is a cheesy masterpiece and probably my new favorite Christmas movie. The movie is about a journalist who gets her big break to cover the coronation of a scandalous prince or soon-to-be king. Things get a little crazy when she is mistaken as the princess' tutor where she gets the chance to report undercover and realizes the prince isn't as scandalous as the media makes him out to be. The best part of this movie is that we are getting the sequel we all deserve! So stay tuned, the sequel will be available on Netflix November 30th!

2. "The Holiday Calendar"

Netflix

This is a great Netflix original movie filled with Christmas magic. And for all my Vampire Diaries fans out there, this movie stars none other than Kat Graham. It follows the story of a girl who receives a vintage advent calendar from her Grandfather. each day the advent calendar reveals a small trinket toy that somehow ties into the events that will happen that day that lead her to her one true love. Or is he her one true love?

3. "Christmas Inheritance"

Netflix

Surprise! Another Netflix original movie. Netflix has really been killing the game when it comes to original movies and series. This movie is about an heiress to a multibillion-dollar company and following a company tradition she finds herself in a small town with hardly any money and of course no cell phone reception. Reluctant at first she learns to love the small town and learns the true meaning of Christmas. (So basically a Hallmark movie am I right?)

4. "The Polar Express"

Warner Bros. Pictures

OK, steering away from Netflix original movie category, this movie captures the absolute true meaning and spirit of Christmas. If you didn't know, "The Polar Express" is based on a children's picture book by Chris Van Allsburg and let me tell you, it's a real tear-jerker. The movie is about a boy who starts to not believe in Santa. He is woken up by the loud sound of a magical train coming through their front yard. He reluctantly boards the train to the North Pole where he learns the true meaning behind Christmas and forever believes in Santa, even when others around him don't believe anymore. This movie and the songs that go along with it never fail to make my grown adult self cry.

5. "Elf"

New Line Cinema

If you haven't seen "Elf," we can't be friends. I have watched this movie every year since it came out and it continues to be a family tradition. It's such a modern classic movie that it got turned into a musical! REJOICE! And yes, the musical is just as pure and wholesome as the movie. Starring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf, Buddy is shocked by the news that he isn't actually an elf, he's a human. Buddy travels through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, a sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and finally through the Lincoln Tunnel to meet his birth father who happens to be on Santa's naughty list. Buddy teaches everyone around him how to believe and love the holiday of Christmas.

6. "The Santa Clause" (1, 2, and 3)

Buena Vista Pictures

The Santa Clause series is that Christmas movie that is constantly on the TV in my house for the entire season. It never gets old. The series follows the life of a man named Scott Calvin and his journey to becoming Santa Claus after he accidentally killed off the previous Santa. This series plays nonstop on Freeform during their 25 Days of Christmas movie special so be sure to watch it!

7. "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas (NOT the live action Jim Scary version)"

Warner Bros. Television

Every day I will fight people who think the live-action version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" starring Jim Carrey is better. The animated original movie based on the illustrations and story by Dr. Seuss is superior and will withstand the test of time. This story follows the Grinch who disguises himself as Santa and steals anything and everything festive and Christmas from all the Whos in Whoville. Unphased, the Whos continue to celebrate Christmas despite not having any decorations or feasts. Seeing this, the Grinch's view on Christmas changes and his heart grows three sizes that day. I can't speak for the new animated Grinch movie that came out this year, but stay tuned for next year's Christmas movie list for any updates,

8. "The Muppet Christmas Carol"

Disney

"The Muppet Christmas Carol" follows the classic Charles Dickens story performed by your favorite Muppets. Your favorite meme Kermit plays Bob Cratchit, Miss Piggy as Emily Cratchit, and Gonzo as the narrator. On top of the classic story, there are amazing songs strewn throughout. My personal favorite song that comes from this movie is "It Feels Like Christmas." This movie is an oldie but a goodie.

9. "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas"

Disney

This movie is more of a compilation of three different stories following three of your favorite classic Disney characters. They all follow the theme of the true meaning of Christmas and are so pure and wholesome that your soul will be cleansed of your sins after watching it. Especially the last story with Mickey and Minnie in it. UGH. That last story is a tear jerker.

10. "Eloise at Christmastime"

ABC

As a child I was obsessed with anything to do with Eloise at the Plaza. To this day it's a bucket list item to stay at the Plaza Hotel all because of Eloise. The best thing that has come out of Eloise is the Christmas movie "Eloise at Christmastime." Eloise, being the sneaky kid she is, follows along on the wedding preparations for Rachel Peabody and Brooks Oliver. Noticing that Rachel is actually in love with a hotel worker named Bill she plots to stop the wedding. On top of the great story, it also has the one, the only, the queen of the universe and beyond, Julie Andrews as Eloise's nanny. Need I convince you more?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.

To My Loving Boyfriend,

  • Thank you for all that you do for me
  • Thank you for working through disagreements with me
  • Thank you for always supporting me
  • I appreciate you more than words can express
  • You have helped me grow and become a better person
  • I can't wait to see where life takes us next
  • I promise to cherish every moment with you
  • Thank you for being my best friend and confidante
  • I love you and everything you do

To start off, here's something I don't say nearly enough: thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You do so much for me that I can't even put into words how much I appreciate everything you do - and have done - for me over the course of our relationship so far. While every couple has their fair share of tiffs and disagreements, thank you for getting through all of them with me and making us a better couple at the other end. With any argument, we don't just throw in the towel and say we're done, but we work towards a solution that puts us in a greater place each day. Thank you for always working with me and never giving up on us.

Because no one ever really leaves.

Ah, yes, good old Hauppauge. We are that town in the dead center of Long Island that barely anyone knows how to pronounce unless they're from the town itself or live in a nearby area. Hauppauge is home to people of all kinds. We always have new families joining the community but honestly, the majority of the town is filled with people who never leave (high school alumni) and elders who have raised their kids here. Around the town, there are some just some landmarks and places that only the people of Hauppauge will ever understand the importance or even the annoyance of.
