DIY brows on fleek

Best Brows For Free

People always ask me where I get my eyebrows done. The truth is, I don't let anyone touch them except me. I had a bad experience with waxing before and now I stick to some tweezers and school scissors. Nowadays, friends constantly ask me to do their brows for them and I never mind, but I thought I would share my secrets to perfect eyebrows for free.

Before I start, I want to make it clear that I am not a beautician. I don't go to school for this, I have just learned a few tricks from personal experience.

Say "no" to salons

Salons are expensive and you can do better work at home. Waxing rips off your skin leaving the area red and irritated. Also, the wax causes aging over time. Threading is a better option than waxing but they are still breaking skin and if the threads are not cleaned between clients, infections can be spread. I am generally not very trusting of others touching my face; I get really scared that something will get messed up. If you do it yourself, you can make sure that your brows are always perfect and if they aren't, you can only blame yourself. Also, when they grow out between visits they look terrible and that's no fun.

Get a LED magnifying mirror

You can do without one, but these are life-changing. I use it for so many beauty-related tasks, not just my eyebrows. It is well worth the investment. I got mine on sale at Costco for $20, but they sell them lots of places. They can be a little expensive, so wait for a good deal and then snag one for yourself.

Figure out where your brow starts

Put a pencil along the side of your nose up towards your eye. This is where your brow should start. Obviously everyone has a different shaped face and different shaped brows, but this is a general technique that can be used to make sure that they are not too close together or too far apart.

Pluck between your brows

Get rid of that uni-brow, you definitely don't want any hairs there. Every couple of days I will go back in and pluck a few more hairs. That part should ALWAYS be fuzz-free.

Fix your arch

Everyone has a natural arch. Some are more curved than others, but I would definitely recommend following your own natural arch. If you try to curve your brows too much, it won't look natural. You can find your natural arch by following your brow bone (the hard part above your eyelid). Pluck underneath your entire brow to create shape, do not pluck the top yet.

Fix the top of your brows

This part can be really tricky. If you over pluck the top, they may be too skinny or look unnatural. I first use tweezers to get those "far-out" hairs. Then I use a mini eletric razor to get rid of peach fuzz and shape the top.

Cut your brows

Everyone freaks out when I tell them to do this, but I always think this makes mine look great. Use an eyebrow brush and push all the hairs upward. Then use ordinary scissors and cut along the top shape of your brow. Be very careful!

Lotion around your brows

You've been messing with your skin a lot so put on some lotion and don't touch your eyebrows for a little while.

Fill

I'm not an expert on filling eyebrows. I didn't start doing it until recently and I still rarely do, because I have dark eyebrows. If your eyebrows are a good shape filling should be easy. Personally, I like to use a little brush and powder, but you can use a pencil or the liquid mascara kind if you want to. I ~lightly~ brush on some matte eye-shadow that is the same color, or one shade darker, than my brows. I start at the inside, using multiple strokes to make it look more hair-like. I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
