Seriously, I love them all.

The Best of Broadway Musicals
Broadway

One of my favorite things in life is going to see a Broadway musical, often times with my mom. Each show is so special in its own way. Between the lighting and the costumes, the story line and the characters and the dialogue and sometimes even songs, Broadway can be a magical place. Here are a few of my favorites!

Best Choreography: "An American In Paris"

Based on a movie and set to all George Gershwin music, this show is filled with incredible choreography, culminating in a 17 ballet piece towards the end of the show. The actor's/dancer's movement will blow you away and wondering how people can move so elegantly!

Best "Coming of Age" Story: "Spring Awakening"

This musical is truly fantastic. I used to sing all of the lyrics to every song before I could possibly even know what any of it meant. This story perfectly captures teenagers growing up and discovering new things about themselves. The music is truly poetic and the plot will always resonate with audiences.

Cutest Kids: "Matilda"

The show is filled with incredibly talented pre-pubescent actors lighting up the stage with their high-pitched voices. The show portrays a young girl determined to read and overcome the challenges many of the adults in her life put in her way. It is not only an amazing story, it is also adorable.

Most Interesting Staging: "Fun Home"

This musical is rather unique. It's an interesting story of a family who runs a funeral home and has a couple of secrets. Although this show may not be the most uplifting story or have the catchiest songs, it's a set in a circular theatre, with audience members surrounding every side of the stage. It makes the way the actors tell the story very fascinating.

Best Ensemble: "Rent"

This musical turned movie is a classic that features show stopping hits and an incredible original cast. The show's cast is really just a large ensemble, all equally talented and moving. While yes, some may have more lines than others, they all stand out as fantastic actors.

Best Use of Animals: "Lion King"

I will never forget the opening scene of this musical. All of the animals truly come alive. It is mind-blowing to say the least.

Best Music: "Next to Normal"

This show's anthems will have you singing them long after you exit the theatre. The songs do a great job in telling the story and showing the character's emotions.

Biggest Surprise (in a good way): "The Color Purple"

When I originally went to see this show, I was not expecting to be as astonished as I was. I knew the story and did not think I would love it. Well, boy was I wrong. The show has the most uplifting story and the cast is truly phenomenal.I am still not over how emotional and amazing it was.

Best Overall: "Wicked"

While I love all of these shows, nothing holds quite as special of a place in my heart as this incredibly clever and entertaining musical does. My mom took me to see it for my 7th birthday and I turned to her in the middle and said "I'm having so much fun, I forgot it was my birthday." So yea, I loved it. Since then, I've seen it three more times. Truly, this soundtrack is one of my favorite things in the world, and every time I see it, I love it even more.

Honorable Mentions: "Waitress", "Legally Blonde", "Billy Elliot", "Les Mis", "A Chorus Line", "Hairspray", and "Once".

These are just a few of my favorite musicals. I could go on forever talking about them! Unfortunately, not all of these are still playing, but for the ones that are, I would strongly recommend; happy watching!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
