The west coast of Washington is known for its coffee. Most of the coffee shops you come by offer free WiFi, which makes them the best places to study if you want to be alone or get together with friends.
1. Starbucks... Duh
We all know Starbucks is a great place to go to work on projects for school. Not only is the WiFi free, but they also play soft music throughout the day that isn't overly distracting. Although this is a great place to go to study, it isn't the most comfortable due to the wooden chairs, there are a few couches but during the school year, those are usually taken.
2. The Black Drop Coffeehouse.Â
Another great place for studying. With a great atmosphere and free WiFi, Black Drop not only has your usual coffee stand beverages but also carries pastries and other things to snack on while you study. Unlike Starbucks, here you have the choice of an actual coffee mug or the take-home cups. Whichever you choose, with your hot drinks you'll get some pretty latte art.
3. Caffe Adagio.Â
This is my personal favorite. The Caffe Adagio is a cozy Italian coffee house that has great drinks and a lot of space. There are comfy couches, a fireplace, and complimentary water that you can serve yourself. Of course, WiFi, but there's also more than pastries. If you plan on spending most of your day getting ready for your midterms, you can get a small meal which makes this place even better.
4. The Union Coffee Shop.Â
This shop is very spacey and almost doubles as a small diner, there are booths and half booths. The booths make studying more comfortable because you have more space to stretch out. At The Union Coffee Shop, they use Tony's coffee and have a decent food menu as well.
5. Primer Coffee.Â
Primer Coffee has a cute modern decor with creative signature breakfast items. Not the best if you're looking for comfortable couches with coffee tables in front, however, they do have one couch and multiple tall tables and regular height tables as well. This place is great for a few hour study period, probably not for a whole day.
6. Lettered Streets Coffeehouse.Â
Very small shop but don't let that fool you, they have amazing coffee and creative latte art. If you need a break from studying there is a fish tank with a goldfish (was last named Carol but it's a goldfish it might've died by now and been given a different name). Very pretty street view perfect for rainy days. No couches though, but I still recommend it!
7. Cafe Velo.Â
Bike themed shop that is a go-to for any cyclist. Their bookshelf has books based on bikes and cycling, they also offer bike services and if coffee isn't your thing, they offer beer too. It almost received a full five stars on Google, which leaves it with the best reviews so far. They have finger foods, WiFi, coffee, and they'll fix your bike for a reasonable price? Sounds great for any college student who needs a break.
8. Woods Coffee.Â
Next to Starbucks, Woods coffee is the next largest franchise in our area. The coffee is great, and they have a fun upbeat atmosphere with rustic decor. They also have nice merchandise aside from tumblers and mugs. They have free WiFi as well. However, because they are so busy and popular, I would recommend wearing headphones to study here.
9. Avellino.Â
Also not the biggest cafe, and no couches, however, it does have nice sturdy tables that you won't have to worry about being wobbly. Which if you have a laptop for studying or doing your project with is the last thing you would want to be annoyed by while concentrating. If you want to snack while you study, there are multiple vegan and gluten-free options along with multiple pastries as well.
10. Because we live in Bellingham I'm throwing this in too: Trove Coffee.
I wish I could tell you about the cannabis part of this place but I try to focus on the coffee. They have a decent menu and plenty of seating for you and your study group. There are multiple outlets lining the walls to plug in your laptops and phones, and they also offer beer and wine. Who doesn't want to drink wine while doing homework?
