With 127 miles of coastline, New Jersey has over 700 beaches, each with their own individual atmosphere, attractions, and events. Here, in no particular order, are 10 of the best beaches in the state, and what you can do when you visit them.
1. Long Beach Island.
Arguably the most famous beach locations in the state, Long Beach Island (LBI) is a barrier island and summer getaway for many New Jersey residents. It has many beaches, a huge boardwalk, museums, and is home to both Fantasy Island Amusement Park and Barnegat Lighthouse State Park.2. Sea Girt Beach.
Located in the quaint and picturesque town of Spring Lake, this beach is perfect for families and those looking for a clean and safe environment to spend their summer day. Right across from the beach's entrance is the Sea Girt Lighthouse, which has been converted into a museum and offers tours and souvenirs.3. Spring Lake Beach.
Just around the corner from Sea Girt, Spring Lake Beach offers a more bustling beach with a larger boardwalk and food pavilion. 5. Wildwood beaches.

7. Lavallette beaches.
The Lavallette borough features nine ocean front beaches and two on the Barnegat Bay. Visitors can engage in a variety of water sports or attend events such as concerts, firework shows, and outdoor movies.
8. Belmar beaches.
Although one of the smallest locations on this list, measuring at 1.3 miles of coastline, Belmar's beaches are kept at incredibly high standards. The beaches are cleaned every single morning, offer unique amenities such as cell phone charging and water bottle filling stations, and have the most beachfront playgrounds in New Jersey. Lastly, several of the beaches are dedicated to specific activities, such as boogie boarding, kayaking, and surfing.
9. Avon-by-the-Sea Beach.
Avon-by-the-Sea is a gorgeous Victorian Community filled with restaurants, shops, and of course, a famous beach. The beach is surrounded by three bodies of water --Sylvan Lake, Shark River, and the Atlantic Ocean -- and is perfect for tanning, swimming, and relaxing.
10. Cape May beaches.
Located at the southernmost tip of New Jersey, Cape May's gorgeous beaches offer unique opportunities such as whale and dolphin watching, parasailing, and even skydiving. Also, if you have the time, hop on the ferry and in about two hours you can get to Delaware!
