Every year, I eat with my family on Christmas Eve. For the most part, all the food my relatives bring is really good, but there's always that one weird thing someone brings that doesn't get touched. Here's a list of the best and worst foods during the holiday season.
1. Green Jello Casserole
I think this is just a family dish, so you probably have never heard of it. If you have, then I'm sorry. To enlighten anyone who doesn't know what this interesting food is, it's green Jello with walnuts, marshmallows, celery (it gets weirder), and mayonnaise. Yes, it's Jello with mayonnaise in it. For some reason my grandmother, mother, and aunt all love this disgusting green glop, but nobody else ever eats it.
2. Fruit Cake
I, like most people, have never actually had fruit cake, but I have heard it's disgusting.
3. Pistachio Pie
I have no idea what this is, but my roommate says that she despises it. She says it's basically just pie with cream cheese, Cool Whip, and graham cracker crust. I think I am going to take her word on this and just run the other direction if I ever see this.
Turkey
I'm not a huge fan of turkey, but I will tolerate it. If there's cranberry sauce available, it's a little more tolerable, but still not my first choice.
Crescent Rolls
Now we are getting into the good stuff. Crescent rolls never stay around long at my family get-togethers, or anywhere for that matter. I think they are a staple for any big family meals.
Sweet Potato Casserole
This is something I look forward to every holiday season. I love making this with my mom and enjoying it afterward. For the record, the kind with the pecans and brown sugar on top is the best. The kind with marshmallows is a hard 3 on this list.
Pineapple Cheese Casserole
Sounds weird, but trust me on this one. Pineapples, Ritz crackers, cheese, and a ton of butter. It's delicious. It's like crack, actually. Once you get one serving, you don't stop until it's all gone.
Ham
Ham is so much better than turkey. This only applies to hot ham, though. Cold ham is just sinister. My favorite kind it the Honey Baked ham with the crunchy glaze all over it. Oh my gosh I'm so excited for it this year.
Everyone has their opinions, but just know mine are right, especially this list. Also, take my advice on the green jello stuff; it's disgusting.
