This is it. The end of the 2016 Presidential Election is near, and we’re currently standing at one of the most prominent crossroads in our nation’s history. It’s clear that few people are excited about either of the major party candidates, so it’s only natural to look back and reflect on all the things that should have unfolded differently. What’s the most regrettable moment of this election cycle? Easy. It’s when the Democratic Party nominated Hillary Clinton and cast aside America’s real sweetheart, Senator Bernie Sanders.
Bernie is the hero America needed, and we were fools to let him go. So uncork a bottle of wine, grab a pint of rocky road, don your favorite mourning veil, and join me as we look back on his best moments and remember the one that got away.10. From the start, Bernie has been consistently amazing.
One of the greatest problems with American politicians is that few of them are genuinely trustworthy. Nearly everybody in Washington has flip-flopped on at least one important issue, and it’s hard to get behind someone who will change their stances to gain public approval, but Bernie isn’t like that. From the beginning of his career, he has stuck to his principles, fought for the causes he believes in, and proved that he’s a politician not for his own benefit but for ours.
In college, he fought for the Civil Rights Movement, was a member of the Congress of Racial Equality, and helped organize the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to stand for equality, promote peace, and oh-em-gee why did we let him go???09. He knows what ladies want.
Throughout his career, Bernie Sanders has fought to protect women’s reproductive rights, help make birth control more accessible, condemn sexual violence, and demand equal pay to close the gender wage gap. I don’t know about you, but I’m smitten. Talk equality to me, Bernie.
08. He stands up for us.
Remember that one time when he took on the top 1% and fought to close corporate tax loopholes to create a more even distribution of wealth and build an America that actually benefits the working class and not just the mega-rich? Ugh. He always looked out for us. We should have appreciated him more.
07. He treats us right.
Most of Trump’s policies are driven by fear, hate, and greed; and Hillary is sketchy AF. All of Bernie’s ideals are founded on love, peace, and equality; and he’s someone that never betrays his supporters’ trust. Can we take him back, please?
06. He cares.
Remember that one time a man passed out at one of his rallies, and Bernie immediately ran to make sure he was okay? If not, here's a video of it.
(I feel you, passed out guy. Bernie makes me weak too.)
05. He's funny.
It’s like he was born to give Larry David acting material. Watch him on SNL with Larry here.
04. He cares about your future.
Despite what Trump spouts over his Twitter account, global warming is not a hoax perpetrated by the Chinese, and Bernie knows that. He’s passionate about protecting our environment and creating a better, more sustainable future for us. He also wants to make college tuition more accessible for people who can't afford to further their education. Why can’t our future involve him in the White House??
03. He's good with kids.
Remember that time Trump told a mother to get her crying baby out of one of his rallies? Well, look at how cute Bernie is with his baby doppleganger and then tell me he isn't the most precious man in the world.02. His relationship with his family is beautiful.
I can’t even describe how touching this was without crying. Just watch Bernie’s brother cast his vote for him at the Democratic National Convention's roll call. How could you not want at least 4 years of that kind of love??
01. Even nature knows he was the right choice.
At one of his rallies, the world’s smartest bird decided to do something iconic by landing on Bernie’s lectern and STAYING THERE. You have to follow signs when the universe shows them to you, people. Even a bird knew that Bernie was the one for us. Why didn’t we??
There are so many more things that make Bernie Sanders the greatest human that's ever lived, but there isn’t enough time in the world to list them out. While you’re curled up on the couch tonight, scrolling through Bernie’s Instagram pictures and pondering what could have been, make sure you remember that he has one major request of us: Vote for Secretary Hillary Clinton. Help continue the revolution.
