Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont will officially drop out of the 2020 Democratic primary race.
Sanders failed to secure the nomination in 2016 against Hilary Clinton and again failed to secure it against Vice President Joe Biden.
A self-proclaimed democratic socialist, Sanders ran on a robust platform of universal health care, challenging the top 1 percent of billionaire elites in the country, and looking out for marginalized communities.
After Biden secured major victories in the past two primaries, it became clear that the path to the nomination for Sanders was incredibly slim and would require an incredible amount of luck.
The path has now been cleared for Biden to secure the nomination and face off against President Trump in the 2020 national election.
