Bernie Or Bust: The Honest Truth

Bernie will always fight for us. Let's give him a chance to.

Bernie Or Bust: The Honest Truth

Using the words of Sara Silverman from Monday night's convention: you're being ridiculous.

As unique and insane as it is, this year's presidential election might be the most important election that our generation will ever get the chance to vote in. I mean important in means of electing someone who won't welcome hate, angst, and fear into our daily lives as Americans. Important as in deciding what the future brings for us as a country.

I'm not saying that every election shouldn't be about us worrying about the future but now more than ever this is something to think about. If we let Donald Trump step foot into the White House nothing good can come of it.

If you're doing this to fight back against Hillary Clinton and the DNC for stealing the nomination from Bernie, you're making a mistake. I am by no means telling you, your vote doesn't matter because it does. I'm saying that if you were never truly passionate about this third party candidate before Bernie was defeated, don't go to the polls in November in seek of revenge.

If you'd told me months ago or even weeks ago that I'd be campaigning or advocating for Hillary Clinton, I would've laughed at you but here I am trying to reach as many people as I can because our future as a country is at stake. My future as a college student who hopes to go on to post-graduate studies is at stake. The futures of my brothers and cousins who are black men in America is at stake. The futures of my gay and lesbian friends are at stake.

If you are a straight, white male living in America, I don't expect you to be able to relate but I at least expect you to try and understand. I hate to sound so cliché by saying this but if you go to the polls in November and vote for Jill Stein or write in Bernie Sanders' name knowing neither of them has a real chance of winning that shows that white privilege is real.

You may have heard this many times already but a vote for anyone other than Hillary Clinton this November is a vote for Donald Trump. And if you're okay with Donald Trump becoming president it says a lot about you.

"A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man you should trust with nuclear weapons."
- Hillary Clinton

When Donald Trump gets angry with someone or more appropriately, a group of people, I wouldn't trust him with a butter knife let alone nuclear weapons or an entire army. Donald Trump is in no way fit to be Commander in Chief. But rather than vote for Hillary Clinton just because she isn't Donald Trump, vote for her because of the following reasons:

She believes all humans of all races, genders, sexualities and religions deserve equal rights and opportunities.

She believes women deserve a say in what happens to their bodies.

She believes in universal healthcare and as FLOTUS fought to ensure that all kids had sufficient healthcare plans.

She doesn't want to repeal the 2nd Amendment but instead wants to reform America's gun laws so that guns stay out of the hands of convicted felons or people who are mentally unstable.

She wants to raise the minimum wage to a livable wage.

She wants to reform the basis of community policing in America and reform our criminal justice system.

She wants to make sure that college students graduate with as little debt as possible.

She believes that climate change is real and will work with other countries to protect the Earth from the harmful effects of our everyday lives.

Under a Hillary Clinton presidency, Bernie Sanders still has a chance to bring about the changes he wants to see happen in our country. Under a Donald Trump presidency, there would be no chance.

Look at all that Bernie has accomplished already. If you're really a diehard Bernie supporter you'll vote for Hillary so that Bernie can keep fighting for us. They will fight for us together.

By nominating a woman for president, the Democratic Party has pierced holes through the glass ceiling that Hillary talks about so much. As she said during her speech at night four of the convention, "Where there are no ceilings, the sky is the limit."

Vote for Hillary so everyone has an equal chance to break past their own glass ceiling and reach for the sky and beyond.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
