So many people question whether or not they should get a dog. My answer is almost always YES. There are so many health and mental benefits to owning a dog, whether you get them as a puppy, an adult, or even a senior, they all love you unconditionally.
When driving around, I always see the car decals that say "who saved who?" but it really does go both ways, whether rescued from a shelter, or from an unstable home, the rescuing goes all the way around.
1. You're never alone!
Cheyenne Gillespie
Dogs are always with you both mentally and physically... and I do mean always. To the bathroom, when you eat, when you sleep, ALWAYS. Getting through high school would've been near impossible without the emotional support my dogs provided me just by being at my side.
2. You will never be bored.
Cheyenne Gillespie
Even if your dog isn't toy oriented, you two will never be bored. If you aren't very active and don't feel like going on a walk, go outside and turn on the hose, and well, the picture says it all. Just pulling out a hose will easily wear out your doggo while also providing you unlimited entertainment.
3. You're not only saving them.
Cheyenne Gillespie
Although some dogs may come from neglectful or abusive homes, nothing makes them feel safer than being next to you. But the same goes for us, having a dog in the home can make us feel safe and comfortable in situations we may not be. Some people even sleep better with a dog in the home. Dogs can provide a sense of security.
4. We all need love.
Cheyenne Gillespie
We all need love in our lives, dogs love unconditionally. They don't judge you. You can step on their tail or paw and they always come back to you. There is nothing you can do to make a dog no longer love you, they are the most loyal companion you can have around.
5. They always know when something is wrong.
Cheyenne Gillespie
Dogs have great senses, they can sense serious health issues and alert you to them. They can also judge character, if a dog shows abnormal and increased aggression towards a specific stranger that they don't display towards anyone else, there's usually a reason.
6. Not ready for a child? No problem.
Cheyenne Gillespie
If you get a puppy, they go through the same learning curves as children. Their puppy stage, toddler stages, rebellious teen stages, adults, and seniors. You teach them manners, how to behave, socialize them, and you are responsible for their life, just as you would be a baby! Dogs are great ways to start your family. When you are ready to start your family, they almost always will love their new humans as much as they love you.
