As the summer months get hotter and heavier by the day, I often find myself hankering for a sweet and cold treat in the middle of a warm afternoon. My favorite go-to summer snack is the ever-classic ice cream, and who knows ice cream better than two of my favorite men, Ben and Jerry. Ben and Jerry's have been serving up deliciously unique ice cream treats for four decades now, and I've been enjoying dozens of their flavors for as long as I can remember.
I can't say I've tried all the flavors, but I've had my fair share and I'd like to think I could put together a pretty strong list of some of their best tastes to date. Here are my top 10 favorite flavors, in no particular order.
1. Cherry Garcia
Cherry Garcia was the first ever Ben and Jerry's flavor that I tried. The sweet cherry ice cream is named after legendary guitarist and Grateful Dead member, Jerry Garcia. My favorite part of this flavor are the fat chunks of chocolate and tender black cherries scattered throughout the smooth ice cream. 10/10 would recommend.
2. Half Baked
Half Baked is a classic back-up-plan flavor. Like if you go to the store, and you find that they're all sold out of your favorite flavor, Half Baked will never let you down. Picture creamy chocolate and vanilla ice creams twisted together with nuggets of cookie dough and brownie batter. What's not to love about all of that?
3. New York Super Fudge Chunk
This has to be one of my absolute favorite flavors by far. In 1985, B&J wanted to establish their relevance on the east coast, so they dedicated their latest flavor to The Big Apple. New York Super Fudge crunch is a rich, fudgy ice cream, jam-packed with chocolate covered almonds, walnuts, and dark/white chocolate chunks. Any time I see it on the freezer shelves at the store, I truly cannot resist taking a pint home.
4. Chocolate Therapy
Chocolate Therapy is the ultimate chocolate craving killer. Whether you're dealing with a breakup, or just a serious case of PMS, this chocolate ice cream layered with chocolate cookies and chocolate pudding is enough to put anyone in a chocolate coma. If you're a true chocolate fan, you will not be disappointed.
5. Chunky Monkey
If you're looking to try something a little bit different, this banana flavored ice cream is blended with walnuts and giant fudge chunks. Sweet and fruity enough to fix your sweet tooth, this is the perfect flavor if you're looking for something a little out of your comfort zone!
6. Phish Food
If you're a big marshmallow guy, Phish Food will rock your boat. Gooey caramel swirled with marshmallow strips and fish-shaped chunks reminds me of the ice cream I loved as a kid. It makes me very nostalgic for my younger years when my ice cream cone would melt in the sun and make my hand sticky with chocolate.
7. The Tonight Dough
Talk about a late-night craving buster! The Tonight Dough is B&J's tribute to talk show royalty, Jimmy Fallon. Fallon's ice cream is packed with gobs of chocolate chip and peanut butter cookie dough, and caramel and vanilla ice cream. I swear this stuff will have you sneaking to the fridge for a midnight snack.
8. Boom Chocolatta Cookie Core
This cookie bomb is one of Ben and Jerry's most recent additions. This mocha and caramel ice cream revolves around a chocolate cookie fudge center. The gooey core is the perfect addition to this tasty ice cream and turns it into a sundae treat! This ice cream is perfect if you're trying to treat yourself.
9. Strawberry Cheesecake
If there's one thing I can appreciate, it's a good cheesecake. If there's one thing that makes cheesecake better, it's ice cream! This strawberry cheesecake flavored ice cream is rich and decadent and the graham cracker swirl really makes it taste like the real deal.
10. Cinnamon Buns
Cinnamon buns are a lot like cheesecake for me. I could never get enough. Combining cinnamon rolls and ice cream make it suitable for breakfast, right? I'd eat this ice cream at any time of day. The caramel ice cream with cinnamon bun dough mixed with a cinnamon streusel swirl will be your first thought in the morning, every morning.
