During this presidential election, we have seen big Wall Street companies and Super PACS speak up and support our candidates, all except for one. Bernie Sanders has refused to take money from either source, which is a quality I and other Sanders supports admire since the billionaire class has too much power in our political system. Bernie Sanders wants his support to be from the people and two influential figures who have spoken out to support him are Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the creators of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream.

The two have stated that they as people, not as their corporation, are supporting Sanders. The way that they are doing this is by traveling around the country and speaking out on why Bernie Sanders is our best candidate. The two have been longtime Vermont supports, watching Sanders political career only improving over the years and his message never changing. The two recently came to my school Smith College to speak out on why we should go out to vote in the upcoming Massachusetts primary. I went in already deciding that I am going to vote for Bernie Sanders, but when I left after hearing them speak it made me feel more fired up to support Bernie Sanders and do anything in my power to help this man reach the White House. Part of their speech that really resonated with me was when they said:

"You might think that, well this is the way it usually is. Well, it's not, usually, it's a choice between the lesser of two evils and nobody's really that excited about it, but you vote for the best person you can vote for. This is historic because it's finally a candidate worth voting for. It's finally a candidate who is willing to take on the entrenched moneyed, corporate interests."

They're absolutely right. A candidate like Bernie Sanders has never been introduced before and knowing that I have a candidate like him during my first presidential election makes me feel that my vote really matters. Young voters can turn this election around, all we have to do is go out and vote and make our voices heard. Someone like Bernie Sanders, just like Cohen said, "only comes once in a generation."

So just like Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, I am going to stress to you reading this to please go out and vote. Your vote can change this election and your vote can make a difference, you have a say in who our next President can be so please register in your state and vote in these primaries.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
