Okay, not a mix tape. Just one song.
In an appeal to black voters, and most directly aimed at those residing in southern cities of the United States, Ben Carson is set to release a new campaign ad titled “Freedom." According to Carson’s campaign spokesman Doug Watts, "Freedom" will run on radios in Miami, Atlanta, Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis, Little Rock, Houston, and Detroit.
This is not your standard ad by any means though. Dr. Carson teamed up with rapper Aspiring Mogul to create a rap song that has messages from the presidential hopeful intertwined within the lyrics.
One of Carson’s greatest messages that’s included within the song comes around the 39-second mark in which, through his soft tone of voice—an especially popular sound in rap music *cough*—he states, “I’m very hopeful that I’m not the only one who’s willing to pick up the baton of freedom, because freedom is not free and we must fight for it every day.”
There are also rumors floating around alluding to a possible music video release from Carson if his radio ad proves successful. Supposedly, the video is planned to follow Drake’s chart-topping music video, “Hotline Bling.”
We knew Carson was getting desperate when it came to winning over the black vote, but a rap song? That's a bold strategy, Cotton.
Fortunately, one can see that there was a fine amount of artistry utilized in the crafting of this song. Just listen to the genius, sophisticated lyrics that the song starts off with: "Vote and support Ben Carson/For our next president to be awesome."
This is truly a masterpiece collaboration from Aspiring Mogul and Dr. Carson. If this doesn't win him the black vote, what will?!
Oh, right, maybe speaking out for some of the issues that are facing the African American populace today, like the Black Lives Matter campaign or the escalation in police brutality occurring throughout the nation, will.
But that seems to be too logical for the Doc. So, for now, a rap song will do.
