Ben Affleck has decided that he shouldn't pull such double duty. He just stepped out of the director's chair for the next solo Batman film, as Variety was first to report. Rumor has it that Affleck wants to concentrate on his performance, which could be affected by wearing too many hats. He is acting as the film producer and co-writing the script. Then add director on top of that, it sounds overwhelming. There is speculation that his most recent cinematic failure, Live By Night is the reason for deciding not to direct. But none of that matters now. What is important is that since he has left the director's chair, questions are swirling about who will replace him. Here are some ideas of directors who may soon join the superhero ranks.
THE WACHOWSKI'S
With the success of three Matrix films and V for Vendetta under their belt, the http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0905154/?ref_=nv_sr_1Wachowski’s were the most sought after action directors of the 2000s. They were riding high on their success but stuck to passion projects. Unfortunately, that may have played a part in their waning success. Their large budget films like Speed Racer, Cloud Atlas, and Jupiter Ascending bombed hard at the box office. They have, however, managed to bounce back on the small screen with their Netflix, sci-fi show, Sense 8.
Why are they a good fit for Batman: They are innovative regarding cinematic experimentation, have a sense of originality, and the moody atmosphere of their films fits well with what D.C. Comics films have established so far. They are also certified nerds and are familiar with the Batman source material. There is no doubt they would know how to navigate the often violent nature of The Batman series.
Since his debut with the science-fiction hit, District 9, Blomkamp films are hit or miss. He is known for combining science fiction, action, and character development together with his unique style of shooting. However, his follow-up films, Elysium and Chappie were met with mixed reviews and mixed fan reaction. Blomkamp is grossly underrated as a director, but his level of originality could take the Batman movie to places fans have yet to experience.
Why is Neil Blomkamp a good fit for Batman: Lately, Hollywood has focused on the action aspect of Batman, but there has always been a scientific element to the story as well. Blomkamp could certainly enhance this aspect. His sleek, down-to-Earth directing style would be a welcomed addition to the franchise because he knows how to film action and he knows how to make it look realistic.
Antione Fuqua has made a name for himself in Hollywood that cannot be denied. He knows how to create visually compelling action cinema that excites audiences. His track record is unblemished, and he produces hit after theatrical hit. For goodness sake, he has a catalog of films that star Denzel Washington! He is doing something right to command such star power in his movies. He has yet to tackle a Superhero film, and his eye for action and charismatic casting is just what Batman needs.
Why is Antione Fuqua a good fit for Batman: Aside from his awesomeness as a director, it would be wonderful to see a director of color at the helm of a Batman movie. When Antione Fuqua sits in the director's chair, you can expect a film with a cast of diverse actors of all shapes and sizes. Batman needs that now more than ever, and Fuqua knows how to make that happen.
With Ben Affleck concentrating on his performance, he needs a director that he can collaborate with. Someone who will have his back, and shares his vision. I am sure many directors can fit the bill, but some stand out more than others. Hopefully, Affleck has his eye on one of these three directors. Together, I foresee them creating something mind-blowing and unforgettable. Affleck works hard, and he's no fool, he will find someone who encompasses everything Batman stands for.
