I am going to begin with the definition of feminism: "the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men."
Equality. Equal. I do not think that any man is greater than any women, just as I believe that any women is no greater than any man. Women are capable of doing anything a man can, and we shouldn't be restricted by a gender that we were born into.
As "ladies" we are expected to stand back and watch the men work, bring in an income, treat us like a trophy while we stay home and cook and clean and then please our man the way he desires. I am very proud to be a part of the changing generation. A generation where a woman can go out and provide. Or a woman can be a stay at home mom if that's what she wants. That's the beauty of feminism: we get a choice! The facts speak for themselves, 5 percent of the world's CEOs are women, that's only 500 women. I'm not saying that I am against male leadership, however I really want to see more women as leaders so they may inspire other girls to reach as high as they can and do what they really want.Another important part of feminism is respecting other women. Girls attack girls in so many ways. We think it's okay to call them "bed-hopping Barbies," "sluts" or whores" and insult them for everything they do, and as women we need to be building each other up! If you see a random girl walking down the street and you like her outfit, tell her! If you see a girl in trouble at a party, help her! We need to look out for one another and show some sister love! And I just need to know: who made cat calling attractive? Who actually enjoys walking down the street and being objectified? If you really find me attractive then talk to me about my interests. Get to know me, and treat me with respect.Telling me to smile is not a compliment! Referring to me as a "thing" does not make me desire you! I am a feminist because I want to walk down the street alone at night and not have to worry that I'm showing too much. I want a day where we don't teach people to protect their drink, that we teach people not to drug others. Where "boys will be boys" changes to "boys will be held accountable for their actions." Where it's not "you can't wear that," it's "that outfit is not an invitation."
I want to end by stating in this article I only touched on small issues, I left out the larger ones and I focused on the problems America faces. Around the world most women can't even drive, can't attempt to get a job, and can't even speak up to defend themselves!
My final quote for you is a popular saying in dance: "Women can do anything men can, backwards and in heals."
